Help How to display incoming call prefix

Max Revson

Newbie
Hi all. I've got quite a major problem on my hands now. ALL my contacts in my phonebook have country-code prefixes appended to them. However, when I receive incoming calls, the caller ID does not display the prefix and as a result the person's name is not displayed even though the number is in the phonebook (albeit with prefix).

Is there a workaround to getting the phone to display the incoming call with the correct prefix this or is this an Android anomaly which we have to live with? Thanks in advance!

i think it depends on the caller's network, some displays the number with prefix and some don't. remember also that you as a caller, have the option of hiding your number or displaying it to the party you will be calling. there are also times that even if the network of the caller provides the number, the network of the receiver can have some faults too. this is evident to me when i call my brother's mobile phone in the philippines from here in italy, sometimes my number is displayed and he would know that i called and sometimes it doesn't display hence he has to asked who's calling.

Hello and thanks for the quick reply. Thing is, my carrier here in Singapore has all along supported callerID with prefix. When I was on my first Blackberry, I converted all numbers in my phonebook to include their respective prefixes as I used to travel frequently then.

I know my carrier still supports prefixes but it seems like Android doesn't like prefixes at all.

I've done some research and seems that this is a widespread problem. I tried a suggested method of removing and re-adding my gmail account to my phone but that didn't help either.

Interestingly enough, SMSes show up with the correct names attached to them, prefixes et al. This problem only affects incoming calls and the way they are recognised (or unrecognised as the case is).

So here I sit logged into my Gmail account slowly removing the prefixes of all local numbers one at a time. *sigh* :(:hmpf::motz:

If anyone has a workaround to this issue, I'm all ears, even if it means having to re-add the prefixes one by one to the contact list now-being-edited-to-suit-Android's-temperamental-dialer.

An update to the situation: I just installed TMT 1.2 custom ROM and with this update, the phone is once again able to show incoming calls correctly when the respective phonebook entries have country codes appended to them, i.e. +65, +66, etc.:D

Now the only problem is: I HAVE TO GO AND RE-INSERT COUNTRY CODES IN ALL MY CONTACTS BECAUSE SMSES DO NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY WITHOUT THEM!!!!!!:hmpf::motz::motz::motz: :pound: :vollkommenauf:

I found this software called PreFixer which does the job for me. You might want to check it out. It is very flexible using regular expressions to get its job done.

Probably a little late now but I would've exported the contacts before changing them just in case I had to change them back. And yes, I speak from a similar experience. :o

This is a definitely a carrier thing.

Doubt that is a carrier-only issue. I didn't change carriers, just ROM versions. TMT1.1 ROM was based on an ICS-leak and didn't play well with international-format numbers. TMT1.2 ROM is based on an official ICS release (IIRC) and displays incoming callers just fine with international-format numbers.

By extension, would it be safe to say that plain-jane official ICS 4.0.3 would play well? I don't know.

Hi,

I have two Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
I bought the first one from the USA (I think that it was brought from Germany to USA) about 7 months ago (or maybe 5 months ago). It is ok. It can work whether the number has the international prefix or not.

Then I bought another one last week from Lebanon. It has the latest operating system and it is much better than my old one.
However, This 2nd unit has the problem that you mentioned. So, if someone calls and his number does not have the Int'l country prefix, then I can't see his name.

The Second Galaxy Note has the following Software:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Kernal Version: 3.0.15-N7000JPLPD-CL643396

Thank you.
Best Regards
