How do you do it with 2.1?
You will need root more than likely and then you will have to edit the battery status images yourself. There are others that display the percentage out there but I don't know for certain if there are any just like you described.
I found a paid app for it
Works for non-rooted phones I think. I have root so it would not matter if I had to do something. But might be worth checking out.

ah! i got it. dunno if it matters but im running cyanogen 5.0.7. neway in spare parts halfway down the menu there is "battery status display". just check it and reboot.![]()
Is cyanogen 5.0.7 ROM1.6 or 2.1? I want to use this battery indicator on ROM1.6 .
