How to download apps from the android market?

I have a sony tablet S android 3.1 OS
I'm downloaded a couple of apps n now suddenly, the google play store on it doesnt open! and when i visit the android market and click download and install an app....the say "the app will be downloaded to your device shortly" n it never shows up!
there is no download or installation....what do i do?
its pissin me off!!

Welcome to the forum, adeliapinot!
Have you tried clearing data and cache from the Play Store?
Also, as an aside, are you really still stuck on Android 3.1? Have you tried upgrading to 4.x? It should be available.

Also do you definitely have an Internet connection?
