Help How to download Market?

attahaas

Newbie
Hi guys,

I have an SGS2 bought in China, so it donesn't come with google account or the Market. Can someone please let me know how to download and install the Market onto my phone.

In one of the other threads there is a link posted to another forum, but I need to again register a new account to access the link there. If someone can upload the file here, it would be great.

I am totally new to this, would much appreciate if someone can post a step by step procedure.

Also, the download link on this page Get the NEW Android Market Now [Download] doesn't work for me here in China.

I do have a Xoom too, if that helps.

Regards.

EDIT 1: OK, I have VPN at home and was able to download the .apk onto my laptop, then transferred it to my SGS2 via Bluetooth and successfully installed the Market. I was the happiest person on earth for a very short moment when the Market asked me to add an account to the device, but nothing shows up after I click "yes" . DANG!!!!

Now I need help on how to logon to google account on my SGS2. Google account app/link, like the Market, doesn't come installed on the Chinese phones. I guess there should be a .apk for google too. Someone, please show me the link.

Update:

Tried setting up a gmail account using the Microsoft Exchange Active sync like this:
Email Address = your full email address
Server address = m.google.com
username = your full email address
password = your password
and make sure you select this server requires an encrypted connection.

Through my laptop and using bluetooth, downloaded and installed
  1. com.android.vending-new.apk (market app, from here http://phandroid.com/2011/07/12/get-the-new-android-market-now-download/)
  2. Gmail_2.3.5.apk (from here http://gmail.droidload.org/)
but when I click on the installed icons, nothing happens otherthan a flashing of screen.

Also, installed "AddAccount-1.1.apk" and ended up with the following error:
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: caller uid 12345 is different than the authenticator's uid
as explained in this link Android - Add Account

NOTHING'S WORKING!!!!

I am at the verge of pulling my hair now. Someone please help......

Flashing some European firmware might work. I have heard of other people doing that. Is your phone the I9100?

JulyDerek,

thanks for the replies, but they are talking about rooting the android device, which I don't want to risk yet. I am very new to Android and this is my first android phone, so don't want to mess with it too much.

The first thing I tried was to flash it with xxkg6 firmware version and it failed a couple of times.

Did some more online research only to find out that everyone in my situation is facing the same problem with XX and without rooting the phone there is no way yet to just flash a western firmware using ODIN. So, still waiting for a non-root method to install an XX version.

Failing the above, people like me are resorting to trying to install .apk files but not sure if anyone successfully could (without rooting).

Seems you are right, Chinese GS2s are modified slightly so they will only accept Chinese firmware.
Unlucky. Root maybe your only option.

Rooting usually does void warranty. I cant say for sure if there is any risk bricking the phone because it seems the software on Chinese SGS2s is different to everywhere else. Normal SGS2's are virtually unbrickable.
Do you have a link for rooting and flashing for the Chinese SGS2?

There was a discussion on xda, at these links:
[Q] Chinese phone flash fail (bricked) [Archive] - xda-developers

[Q] How to replace Chinese firmware with European one - xda-developers

Apparently, some chinese guy did flash to western firmware successfully, but it's all written in Chinese. You could use chrome to translate the page into english:
?8?3??ownhereSGS2 1.2.4, ??SD?|??|AGPS|???|???? - ?? Galaxy S II i9100 ROM ???? - ?? Galaxy S II I9100?? - ???? Android?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ????????|???|

After translating may be you could make some sense out of it by looking at the key words.

Please see if there is a workaround for it without rooting. If rooting is the only option, then I would like to wait for some more time and meanwhile figure out a way to make the google apps work in the chinese firmware (need help here too).

Thanks. :)

Same situation here, sgs2 in china, the market.apk behaves exactly the same for me, with or without using my vpn. I'm almost ready to throw caution to the wind and try rooting, as per my post here:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2/394268-chinese-sgs2-firmware-question.html
You can find the stock firmware here, it's ZNKG5 which is the China Unicom version, not the retail version ZCKG4 which I don't think is available to download yet.

The first time I tried to flash with XX, it failed. So, had to go with ZNKG5 version. It works, only difference is your startup screen shows China Unicom and a few apps are different.

I don't know if this will help but check out my post from 2days ago, my market stopped working and a guy helped me fix it.

I hope this helps :-)

If this helped you please press the "thanks" button.

Thanks Burner2004!

Steslatt,
Do you think the CWM and the zip install work for me with my chinese firmware? If so, should I just install the CWM first and then the zip, or is there any other procedure for my case?

Thanks.

I'm not sure the CWM method would work in your case? Maybe you could try it? It really is up to you. I don't want to tell you to do something and it brick your phone. I translated the link you posted and it seems like it is a rooted version of the Chinese firmware.

OK. Is the CWM method also a rooting method? If not, please let me know the procedure, I will see if I can try it or not. Please don't worry, I won't blame you if it bricks my phone. :D

CWM - ClockWorkMod - It is a custom recovery mode that enables you to Flash roms, themes, apps, kernels and also wipe, backup, restore. Your phone comes with a standard recovery mode (power off then hold vol up, home, power) it just replaces this. You cant do much in standard recovery mode.

So when you use ZNKG5, does it have three files? I can only find one big file called I9100ZNKG5_I9100ZNKG5_I9100OZHKG5. Do you use Odin to flash it to PDA, Phone, or CSC? Or all three? Or what?

Edit: alright, I flashed that Chinese guy ownhere's ROM, it's a rooted ROM, it includes superuser and CWM, working great so far. Hopefully, no need to go back to ZNKG5. Fingers crossed.

Could you please let me know the procedure how you flashed the Chinese guy's version?

Why do you think you might need to go back to ZNKG5? I thought once the phone is rooted, you are just free to use any version.

Now that it's rooted, did you try installing XXKG6?

Thanks. :)

To flash his rooted version: go to that link you posted, and click on the first link. It goes to a Chinese file hosting service 115.com. I don't know if you can read Chinese at all, but you're looking for 'download', '下载'. I used '下载电信

Thanks a lot Smatt23.:) I will try this and post my update here.

By the way, should I check the "Re-partition" box or leave it unchecked?

So, even if someone roots the phone, reinstalling the original firmware upholds the warranty? I mean can't they find out the phone has been rooted?

Sorry for asking too many questions, I am very new to all of this. :D

Finally installed the Chinese root version given in one of my above posts, as Smatt23 did too. It's working finally - market, google account, etc! :)

Thanks Smatt23 for the headsup and procedure.
