Help How to enable G-mail Notification bar?

Alright so I want to enable where anytime you get an e-mail with g-mail that it shows an icon in the phones notification bar. It was enabled when I first got my phone but I disabled it and would like to enable it again thanks!

Open Gmail
Press Menu
Tap on "More"
Tap on "Settings"
Scroll down to the bottom
Tick "email notifications"

Done

Hmm I have it checked but still not showing up in notification bar. If it matters g-mail isn't in the social hub and I can add it cause it says after i put my accoutn info connection failed.
