How to enable gingerbread keyboard?

Search Keyboard From Android 2.3 in the Market and download it there. Reason why you dont have it is because your phone Has HTC Sense therefore using the sense keyboard :)

Not working for me. I get the gingerbread keyboard option to tick but old keyboard remains. Unbranded DHD on Orange.

aha - working now, you need to long press a text field, choose input method and then gingerbread.

Hope you guys like it! I have it as I am running stock Gingerbread on a custom ROM but even before that I installed that app when I was running sense ;)

I find it cleaner looking and easier to use.. I mean some people love it and others prefer the sense keyboard... You just have to try them all but personally I love the Gingerbread one. You could always try swiftkey, thats what im currently using after finding it this morning and its excellent, Looks alot like the Sense one but much better to use. I really like it

I like the Gingerbread keyboard because it doesn't seem to automatically add everything I type that it doesn't recognise to the dictionary. Whenever I typed something the Sense keyboard didn't know, it added it to the dictionary. Sometimes I type a lot of character strings that aren't words and I don't want them cluttering up the dictionary. There was no way of switching back and forth between predictive and non-predictive whilst typing.

I don't think that the Gingerbread one does this - or at least its not telling me that its doing it (the sense one always used to say 'xxxx added.' That said, there must be some mechanism for it to add new words, so maybe it is just doing it without telling me...

If you type something it doesn't recognise, it will be the first option in the list of suggestions in white text. If you hit that one, rather than going with the suggested words, it will add what you spelt to your text box and you'll notice it now says '<--- Touch to save' in the suggestions bar. Hit your word a second time in the suggestion bar and it saves it.

So it does! Exactly what I want to happen, brilliant! Thanks for that little titbit :-)

How do I get this keyboard to actually display please. Have downloaded it from apps store and it shows in the keyboard settings. Have ticked the Gingerbread keyboard tick box but when opening anything with keyboard I just keep getting the Sense one as before.

That's a common question. You need to do this:

Gingerbread keyboard is lacking the direction keys to move your cursor so a bit useless really as DHD has no trackball to move cursor with. Back on the stock Sense keyboard myself.

Just tap into the text where you want to move to and the cursor moves there.

After spending the past couple of days using the gingerbread keyboard, I've come to the conclusion that anyone who prefers it over HTC's offering has mental problems and/or fingers like twigs. :p

Just a quick line to say thanks for this. I've tried all sorts of keyboards and just can't find one as good as my old iphone one (sorry for the language there ;) )

Have to say that this Gbread one is the best yet :)
