[How to] Enable support for standard bootanimation.zip on stock Samsung ROM

Codegerm

Android Expert
This will allow your Samsung ROM to use the "bootanimation.zip" to allow you do custom boot animation easily. According to the post, it should work in most any ROM that doesn't already support it. In your CWM recovery you will flash the file "Bootanimation4U.zip" from this post:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063280

After that your phone will now support the ability to play the bootanimation.zip that you push to /system/media. I can confirm this is working on TW Jellybean (GB27/GC01) and it should work for ICS also.

Here is a link to some animations you can try out:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197865&highlight=bootanimation+zip

For these animations I did it the manual method of opening the archive and copying the bootanimation.zip to /system/media on my phone (also made sure file permissions are rw,r,r)

As always: Make sure you have a nandroid backup before flashing anything in recovery.
That practice should be followed no matter what you are flashing.

I have been playing with the Boot animation and updated one I had on my prevail to the higher res of the GS2. It is a Resident Evil theme one. The link here is displaying the one on the Prevail. Once I get a chance and some tape to cover the blue light of my laptops camera active light (it reflects off the phone screen), I will make a new one. It plays so much nicer on the GS2.

Edit: The link now updated to the one assembled from my bootanimation.zip. :D

The video was compiled from my bootanimation.zip that I upgraded the resolution to the one for the GS2 from the one I used on the Prevail. (Link is in above post)

I did this a while back and grabbed a random animation to test it....I want to change it but its stuck using the same one I tested with and I hate it. Any solution?

If your animation is bootanimation.zip just change it. Normally you would put it in /system/media but check /data/local to make sure you don't have a second bootanimation.zip

So I take it that you have to flash this to make bootanimation.zips work in data/local for gc01? Obviously right? And if so, how does this make them compatible?
