how to exclude files from apps

NewB here...
I was wondering if there is a way that I can exclude some folders and files from being accessed by the camera app and the gallery app.
I've loaded some R rated movies (Wedding Crashers, Superbad, etc) which contain adult content...

I notice that the movies are accessible from the Camera and Gallery apps. I let my kids play games and take pics and dont want them to be able to access these so easily.

Are my only options to remove the movies or not let them use my phone?

does this go for ringtones too? They end up playing on my playlist. Also....this app is a little confusing. How do i move the movie kickass to the studiokuma folders?

oh yeah just make sure you turn your phone off and then back on after you exclude a folder so it will run a media scan and update accordingly

nevermind i figured it out.....just hold down the folder you wanna disable then click on the pop up message. Cool deal!!!!

On your computer create a file named ".nomedia" (save a blank notepad file, make sure when you save it you select "all files")

Make a new folder on your phone, put your R rated movies in there and the default apps wont find and list them (preview etc.) . Works for any movie/ picture. The only way to find them is to point to the directory yourself.

I hide folders in my android directory -.-

that seems like way to much work

true, but the op wanted them to not show up in his movie player or galleries. This will do that. It won't hide the files, there is probably another app for that. It does work for ringtones though...

Thanks for the info pr0virus. So do I place this .nomedia (empty text file) in any folder I do not want to be "found" by standard apps? I just tried it and the movies are still found... What am I missing?

Well, I cannot seem to get it to work via the .nomedia empty file method. I tried renaming the folders - no luck. I deleted the folders/files from the phone, re-started, copied them back with the .nomedia file - no luck.

I am sure I'm missing something obvious. I am placing a .nomedia empty file in the folder containing the movies. To create the .nomedia file, I created a new text file with no content via notepad.

What am I missing?

finally getting back to this, i figured it out. should have paid better attention to pr0virus' instructions. When doing the save as, i forgot to select file type "all types".

working great now. thanks again

How is the ringtone problem solved when i use this program or a nomedia file it blocks all the files from the phone. So when i go to select a default ringtone non of my custom ones show up
