Help How to fix the Galaxy S4 Lag!

My s4 (i9505 ) lags horribly not just the lag that can be fixed by turning animation off it lags at almost every app I use and every game even games that are not graphic intensive I was wondering is there anyway to fix the lag ? (Factory reset doesn't work)

Have you made sure it is not a rogue app causing the problem? This phone should be really fast and constant lag is a thing of the long gone past in Android. Check your apps and CPU usage.

im not sure on how to check if there is a rogue app however i was looking at cpu usage while using the apps and playing games it usually doesn't max out but when i just leave it in home screen the cpu usage may reach from 300MHz to 1.1GHz and i have about 1 gig of free of ram so i dont really see anything wrong about it but it just lags and i dont know why

Might be something to the cpu not ramping up fast enough. When i unlock my phone i have to wait 2-3 seconds to do anything. I can hit icons and it does nothing. Very annoying

That's what I'm thinking might be happening too. The cpu governor isn't ramping up fast enough out of deep sleep.

Here's how I finally fixed the lag in my GS 4 equipped with a whopping 2 GB RAM and 1.9 ghz processor. I RETURNED IT TO VERIZON and I'm back to using my trusty, NEVER LAG, never become unresponsive iPhone 5. I had huge hopes for the GS 4. What a major let down. My device and I parted company after just 9 days. Maybe it's Touchwiz that is the ultimate culprit. Maybe not. Someday I will dump Apple once and for all. The day will come when Google and Samsung get it right. They have yet to create a device that can outshine the iPhone. The GS 4 is all hype. It fails to deliver. PERIOD.

Good move. Good luck with multi tasking and the the huge screen.

Google and Samsung? what about HTC, LG, Sony, Asus, Motorola, or Google Nexus line and many others.

Did you consider any of them? ;)

I think sales of the GS4 would say otherwise. I don't have lag on my phone at all. I still changed the suggested settings though. My brother in law who just got an iphone 5 played with my GS4 and was jealous. He even called it a dinosaur after he asked if I could do certain things that he cant. The GS4 isn't all hype. Its simply a case of what works for one person won't work for the next. It's personal preference. The GS4 delivers to me just fine. The phone also just came out. It's like a new generation car. It's bound to have issues just like the iphone did. I'm sure Samsung will provide updates to fix these issues people are having. No phone will ever be 100% perfect though. I know plenty of people with problems on any phone including the iphone. As someone else mentioned why only Samsung and Google? What about the HTC One which is also a top selling phone right now?

With 3 iPhone 5's and 1 GS4 phone in the house, none of the users of any of the devices have any desire to change. ;)

I cannot imagine any scenario where I would trade in my GS4 for an iPhone. My techy daughter went with the iPhone simply for the apps. But I suspect she secretly wishes she had gone with the GS4 instead. The other 2 non-techy family members are happy using their iPhone 5's.

All is good in our mobile family. ;)

People want what they want.

Rather than a boring iPhone discussion, let's please stick to helping each other with lag advice.

Cheers, thanks! :)

Here's a thought: how about posting up a video of the lag that's being reported? I suspect this is more of a subjective issue than objective, but I could be wrong.

The animations remain, you reduce the built in delay by reducing it to zero. I'm still unclear on why anyone would even want the delay? Regardless you will see no difference other than your lag in the launcher goes away. Take the lag out of the home button by removing its delay to sense a double tap and all of a sudden in combination with the other fix the phone becomes much much better.

Puzzles me to. I just checked my daughter's S2 Skyrocket, though the developer options aren't as rich... the delay remains. Removed it... phone speeds up. My wife was wiped out from her trip, is taking a nap, but I'll do the same to her phone when she wakes up.

What I don't get, is why make the S4 owners, jump thru hoops to get to the settings? I'm loving this phone, especially after removing the lag. Granted, I wasn't seeing much (I just picked mine up this weekend)... but changing the delays, that don't make much sense, is a world of difference. This thing smokes now... wow!

I looking at getting the S4 on verizon. I read that some say they can fix the lag issue, but they never say how.

How can it be done?

Thanks

There are some third-party kernels out there that have killed the lag beast. But, you have to be brave enough to go root the device.

Allot of people said that about the last firmware updates, but it's great news if true because it means it's only a software issue.

Also not only does it involve rooting but also installing custom recovery.
