Root How To: Flash Android 2.2 on the AT&T Captivate

i already tryed 100 times to get into downloading mode..

but never works... i might be doing dsomething wrong...

im running on win 7 x64

I cannot get my phone to boot into download mode.
I hold down both volume keys, plug in the USB cable, and it just goes to the battery charging screen as though I wasn

I managed to get the sdk figured out and did a reboot that way.

How long does the update take?
How long should I expect to stay in "file analysis"?
It's been about 10 minutes now, and I"m starting to get worried.

Not sure what I've done wrong here.

I just worked through putting Froyo on my captivate today without a glitch. I had rooted my phone yesterday with the update zip file, also without a glitch. I added Titanium Backup and had the Persmission User file (I think that was the correct name, the one with the Ninja guy) and Busybox was added. But now that I have this Froyo update (the one from designgears), my phone no longer seems to be rooted. Titanium and Busybox won't work because I get a message saying the phone isn't rooted. It was before I did the Froyo procedure which, all in all, seems to be fine. I seem to have all the options with Froyo.

But when I try to root again, now having Froyo on my phone, I get this message when I attempt to "reinstall packages" -
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I do have USB debugging enabled and that update zip file is still in the same place on the internal sd. I even tried deleting the zip and reputting it into the internal sd. Still can't seem to get the original root procedure I did yesterday to now work. Am I doing something wrong or is there something slightly different to re-rooting the phone now that Froyo is on it?

so yeah oden detects on com3, the only box that does anything. hit start. says analizing file or something does nothing. so i rooted, unrooted. turned it off removed batt and sim, held both vol and pwr bnts. get the restore screen. then what? hit menu bt get the download mode symbols and still nothing. win 7 64 bit drivers

Process:

  1. Download the Android 2.2 Froyo update from designgears
  2. Open the .exe file on your Windows PC
  3. Put your phone into download mode by turning it off, holding down the volume keys and plugging the phone into your computer
  4. The .exe from designgears should now recognize your phone.
  5. Click

You guys should try Cog 2.2 Beta...Froyo with root, and you can lagfix it...amazing good!

Leaked 2.2 just isnt good enough for me.
