ATTENTION: Motorola and Verizon have found issue with this OTA update and it is rumored that there will be another next week. For those who have already installed this, don't freak out, you will be able to install the new update right over this one. For those who have not already installed this, it's probably best to wait until next week. Stay tuned for more information..

Can we still install the over the air update when we get it if we use this update?

Not sure if it got answered but this is to DLM, you need something like astro file manager. Then in the setting for Astro you can enable all browser downloads. This will all you to DL the file then you can turn it back off since it does create some issues with gmail attachments.

From everything i have read and looked into yes the process we are doing here is the same as if you would have troubles and called support they would walk you through manually applying the update. This is also how they would do it in the store if you went there for it. When the new update comes there will more than likely be two versions since VZW has already pushed this to some users. Then again they may just make everyone download the full update again.

Installed 2.2 yesterday, loving it so far. Except that all the music files I have are no longer showing up in the Music app. If I go into my file manager and select a song that way it plays, but none of the song title/artist/album info shows up, and it does not remain in my library in the app. Anyone know what the deal is?

I installed. Yea there are some bugs for sure. My Droid does not run faster, seems to freeze a lot now. Ill swipe the screen to move left of right and the response stinks to say the least.
Is anyone else having issues with the gallery?
My videos that worked perfect on 2.1 now do not work. Some do not play at all. Others show the thumbnail of the video but its looks like a VCR tape being fast forwarded. Is this happening to anyone else. I tried removing them and putting them back on but that does not work. Did they change the format or something?
Any advice?

Update installed perfectly per the instructions.

...AAAANNNNDDDD...verified that bluetooth dialing is included at long last!

WOOHOO!!!!!

I have been waiting for this update for about 5 months now. Mainly for the wifi hotspots and flash player. So I could hardly contain myself when I found I could bypass the waiting and manual update. Now I have the update and no wifi hotspots and no flash? Am I missing something?

No. Wi-Fi hotspot is not supported at this time. We know it can work, but someone made a decision to exclude the feature from this release. Perhaps Verizon did not want to field the inevitable complaints about battery life. USB tethering is supported, but Verizon detects use of this feature and points you to a page that indicates that it will cost you $20 per month for up to 2 GB.

Flash was not included in the release, and currently it is not available via the Market either. You can find links to the Beta 3 version of Flash here on the forum. I installed it, and it works great.

I did the update and it went well even with the known E:Error. Maybe it is just me or my phone but it seems like everything has slowed way down. This seems odd since Froyo was supposed to make the phone faster... Am I the only one seeing this? I do use Launcher Pro and am wondering if that is what is causing the problem. I'll be trying using the stock home page some and see if it improves but as it is I wish I hadn't made the switch. Fortunantly I just got the phone (I'm a recent winmo convert) and am within my 30 days and may trade it for an X if the new update doesn't fix this.

I'm also running LauncherPro (Love it btw!) with 7 home screens and 3 docks but I'm seeing clear speed improvements in 2.2. Have you rebooted since the initial install of 2.2?

Will we still get the OTA update if we do this?

And if we do will we be able to just install over this?

Yes and yes. When the official build is pushed out this version we're running will be recognized as an earlier version of 2.2 and will be replaced with the latest version being pushed. The build we're running is a legitimate build not a hack so this is not a big deal. However, if you haven't 'force installed' it yet IMO you might as well just wait for the official push since it's easier and will surely start any day now.

Thank you Trident! I used the download link provided by Larry R. It worked great and I am now at Froyo! The only thing I can not get 2 work is the new Adobe Flash App on the Android Market!

First gripe with 2.2 (Verizon's greed re: tethering notwithstanding), when in Car Dock the screen dims after a minute (or configured time) just like it would normally. That's not so cool when you use your Droid as a radio in the car particularly during the day. Also once you're in Car Dock mode you're restricted to the applications they present, hitting Home key takes you back to the Car Home app instead of your Home screen(s). The Car Home Settings should be called Car Home SettING because there's only one actual setting, whether to display the annoying "Don't use your device while driving" warning.

I have to withdraw my gripe. After using the car dock some more, I get it now. Key point is that the screen doesn't LOCK it just goes dim so a touch wakes the display up. This is actually quite nice for night driving since I keep my brightness at 100%. The only trick is learning where the 'sweet spots' are on your apps so that you don't trigger any actions when waking up the screen. Oh! and the screen does NOT dim when using Navigation and Nav is displayed on the screen which is a good implementation. If Nav is running in the background and another app is in focus, the screen will still dim.

Well when i swipe between screens it is laggy and sometimes freezes. Hitting an app to open it sometimes takes a few hits.
Some of the videos in my gallery no longer work, the thumbnails look like a vcr tape being fast forwarded and take forever to load. Overall the phone is just slower.
The net is no faster then it was on 2.1.
To say disappointed would be an understatement. And no tether...what a joke
I waited for 10+months for this?
Now it could be the phone. I just received a refurbished phone from VZW yesterday but it worked great for hours before I did this update.
I hate to say it but I should have just waited for the OTA, but then you cant count on them too since I hear VZW is pulling that one as well. I have build FRG01B and I would strongly recommend not installing it, unless there's something I missing.

This thread explains how to force the official Android 2.2 Froyo update to your Motorola Droid. It is made up of two guides. You will have the option of choosing to install the update with either the use of your computer or completely on your Droid. Both methods have been tested thoroughly and work perfectly. With both methods, it is highly recommended that go slowly and read through the entire guide before you begin. It should take no longer than 10 minutes to follow each guide all the way through.

For information about what exactly is included in this update, please see the official release document.

Special Thanks To...
-LarryR for the update.zip file
-Nexeo.net, Polarix, StrifeJester, wee_ag, johnlgalt, blong4life, Inphosys and Dev-Mob for file hosting
-NickMili - without his help we would'nt have this. He provided the semblance of a file name that led us to the correct file on Google's servers.
Guys,

One question, I'm getting an error during the installation, my phone shows:

E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I've also seen some index where it's recommended to download the file again, but I tried to do so (from 3 different links) and the issue is still reproducible. Do you have any other idea?

Thanks a lot!

Where are you seeing bugs?

I found a bug. I guess its a bug or just the app. will need an update for this new version.
WiFi Analyzer no longer can produce the audio, if you have the audio set to "on"
No biggy I guess, although I use that "audio" feature a lot. Hopefully an update will be pushed shortly when this new version gets released.

Also over all my Droid has slowed down. Really notice it while browsing now.

FWIW, I had a VERY similar issue when 2.1 came out. I tried a manual update, tried letting OTA do it, tried doing a factory wipe (THREE TIMES!). I took it in to the local VZW store, they tried and couldn't get it. They had me call Motorola, I explained what was tried and their answer was to go back to Verizon and have them exchange the phone. Exchanged the phone and all went well for updating.

For anyone getting errors similar to the one below, you MAY need to have your phone exchanged.

I get error: pictured here

yeh, just hook your phone to your computer, mess around a bit, click view files, whatever. eventually you will see that all your songs are still on your sd card or at least should be. AFter that, just unplug your droid and the songs should magically appear.

worked for me!
