[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

Side note:
AWESOME FIX!!!!!!!!!

So I've had problems with my droid (2.1) randomly deleting my texts into oblivion. Sometimes there are many MMS messages in my texts when this happens.

After a long period of time, I found "dialer storage" taking up 170MB of space, which was cramping me badly but I couldn't do anything about it.
It appears that all of those MMS's that "disappeared" were still hogging space.

In 2.2, I just went and found dialer storage (170mb) and deleted data. I now have 200MB free on the phone!! w00t!

awesome.

Hopefully it'll stop randomly deleting messages, too. One can only hope.

Looks to me like you have clockworkmod recovery. It most likely wont install this. You need to get back to the stock recovery.

Halfway down that thread is a guide for reverting to stock. It will wipe all your data though

I had always used SPRecovery before, never clockworkmod.

I reverted back to stock (I had done that after I un-rooted) and was still having the same problems. So I checked my Firmware and it was 2.0.1 so I downloaded the 2.1 update.zip and installed that. After which I copied the Froyo update.zip back onto my SDcard and it worked like a charm.

Try it once more...

Also, which download location did you use?

I used two both from this site. Downloaded from a mac so the file automatically unzips but I compress the folder into a update.zip file...

My sd card comes up as "SD CARD" when I mount it to my computer (I believe I changed it from the default), would that effect it from running correctly?

Just downloaded and installed!! dock screen is different and much awsome!!!
Trident is the MAN and deserves a golden droid for this one!!:D:):eek:

Installed it and it works. I have a few questions though.

1. I no longer hear the DROID notification sound on startup, and when I plug in the USB cable.

2. Is is safe to delete the update.zip from the root of the SD card?

Thanks.

BTW, here's a screenshot:

Just finished updating. Reboot went blazing fast for me, but they may be because I just had to wipe and reboot 2.1 yesterday due to a problem with my Droid.

Thank you guys for putting this out there!

Yeah, he is!

How do you make it vibrate when you are typing a message (vibrate when you are pressing the keys)

Settings --> Sound --> Haptic Feedback

i try on my Milestone..it not work!!

This is for the Motorola DROID only - CDMA, not GSM

1: Known issue - been running leaked FroYo for a couple of months now and it is the same for me.

2: Now that you are updated, yes, although it won't hurt to keep it around just in case.

Any idea why flash is not available in the market?

Not sure on that, but I haven't been seeing it on my BB 0.4 FroYo either - you'll have to manually download it and add it, ir my best guess.

You can not re-zip the file yourself, it will lose the digital signature. Do the following and then download the update.zip again and continue from there.

- Open Safari
- Navigate to "Safari" and then choose "Preferences"
- Choose the "General" tab
- Uncheck "Open Safe Files After Downloading"
