Imagine having free money to spend on any app from the Amazon.com Appstore. Actually, free money to spend on anything from Amazon.com! I get $10

It's not free. You're giving them every single piece of information about your Internet activity which they use to tailor ads to you. You give up way too much IMO.

Yeah, technically this is a scheme because they make a ton of money from the info they gather about you.

On the other hand, find me a popular search engine that doesn't do the same things.

Well, "scheme" as in "evil scheme" or "give me your email address and I'll transfer millions of golden-egg-laying babies into your bank account."

Yes, they use the data like any other search engine. But at least I'm being compensated for it (albeit a small amount).
