how to get better text notification

Ok well when I get a text message all feel is a quick vibrate and I barely notice it is there more notification options?

Open your text messaging icon and then click menu, then go to settings. You can also change the volume of your notificAtions

I'll just add that most stock messaging apps are not the greatest. Consider trying out both GoSMS and Handcent. Either of these offers more customization options and also quick reply.

Handcent has the ability to change the vibration patterns, along with many other things. Very nice app..

i couldn't find it either, although i checked out ChompSMS....and i was somewhat skeptical but now that i have used it and customized it...i love it. especially the vibration customization and the pop up quick message is EXACTLY WHAT ANDROID NEEDED!!! definitely check it out.

After you install one of the SMS applications from the market, how do you stop the generic SMS applicaion supplied with the phone from receiving messages?

In the stock messaging app, menu-more-settings-uncheck received notification

The stock app will still get the message but it just wont notify you of it.
