Help How to get media in other folders seen in Gallery

I have pics & vids from older phones in folders on phones memory.
They used to be viewable from Gallery on old HTC One X, i think until and Android upgrade, and similar now not viewable in Gallery on M8.:mad:
This is highly annoying, how can I rectify?

They are from old phones, pre back-up/transfer feature....so can I put them all into the DCIM folder?
 
I haven't tried purposefully, but my phone has been turned off/on several occasions.
But, i'm trying to point out that I believe that this is an android upgrade that prevents this, as my previous phone went like this a few months back before i upgraded to an M8.
 
It should work.

I moved from an S3 and just stuck in the 32GB SD card that I had in that phone. It had the photos and videos taken on my old phone in the folder '\DCIM\Camera'.

The M8 saves its photos to \DCIM\100MEDIA.

My new phone has seamlessly amalgamated both directories into the gallery.
 
I have successfully transferred my media from my last phone to \DCIM\100MEDIA.
But I have older media in another folder, which doesn't show in gallery....but it used to...in several older phones using this method....HELP?!

Maybe photographic media has to be within a sub directory of \DCIM\to show up in the gallery. My old photos and videos are and show up just fine.
 
Maybe it's a problem connected to KitKat and the updates regarding read/write permission on SD. My guess is that the gallery app doesn't have permission to read/write outside of the DICM folder.

Moved them to another folder, and some appeared in gallery...completely random choice.
Just received, inserted and populated said files onto SD card....and ALL immediately came into Gallery!
Phone issue!!!!
 
Again, I have a similar issue on a new HTC One M9, where I have copied oen folder over with all my documents and several folders with older phone pics, and only some of the folders and items are visible, can anyone please help to solve this? NOTE that I have rebooted several times.
 
I may be being a bit of a pedant here, but if the issue is with an M9 then technically shouldn't the question be asked in a different forum?
 
Highly likely, but that is the annoying thing here, most of the issues are android related, but you have to ask them in the handset forum, but it should be in a general andoird forum!!
Anyway, resolved, I just had to re-copy them!!
