Root How to identify kernel in rom?

slots in kernals represent the amount of adjustsment from minimum to max mhz. you could use setcpu to count how many adjustments you have. ex: my kernal is a seven slot kernal with seven different speed settings from 125mhz all the way up to 1.2 gig.

i would be hesitant to use a kernal from that far back to be honest. kernals have come a long way since then. especially chevy's his new ones have cpu temp monitoring as well. but yeah the lower minimum setting will equate to better battery life. however some people think 125 is to low as it takes a slight bit longer to ramp up from 125 to 1.1gig than from 250 to 1.1 gig. the kernal i use is a p3droid it goes from 125 to 1.2 gig and i love it!
