How to Kill Apps that Won't Close

Hello all,

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy SII with Jelly Bean on T-Mobile. I'd like to stop the facebook app from running when I'm not using it, however, I can't seem to kill it using advanced task killer.

The facebook app is always on in the background, sniffing around for my personal information on my phone. I'd like to use it, but I don't need Facebook to know everything about me.

Is there any way I can kill the app completely when I"m not using it?

I don't use Facebook partly because of privacy concerns you mentioned, so I can't help with the Faceboook app specifically.

But... ordinarily you shouldn't worry about closing apps. Android handles that automatically for you. DO NOT use any task killer or a memory optimizer. They actually waste power and may disrupt critical system processes and degrade performance. And the more they are used the worse it gets.

Android is excellent at handling processes and memory with no help from 3rd-party apps or user assistance. Just let Android do it's job, relax and enjoy your phone.

Facebook runs with a service and you're going to have to accept that if you want to use the Facebook app - it was designed that way. Manually killing apps is bad for Android, I explain why here.

As mentioned above, task/app killing does no good and possibly some harm.

I don't trust facebook and their data mining app since they launched the new version of facebook app the day facebook home launched. On that day facebook app asked for overly agressive permissions so that facebook home (which needs facebook app also installed in order to run) would have to ask for no permissions.

That was just another reason sign that I should delete the app from a company I don't trust.

Instead you can use a bookmark widget to the facebook mobile page. The mobile page is actually not bad. You will miss out on alerts and such though.

Thanks everyone for your response.

I'm convinced that I don't need the Facebook app on my phone any longer. However, I've heard that even if I uninstall the facebook app, some parts of the app remain on the phone and it continues to mine for personal data and transmit it to the mother ship at facebook HQ.

How can I completely wipe the facebook app off my phone with all its processes or will a simple uninstall do?

I really hope you are being overly cautious. But one idea is...after you uninstall you can change your facebook password on a computer. Therefore, anything left over and hidden on your phone probably won't be able to update info for an account that it does not have the valid password for.

A simple uninstall should do it, but if you want to be doubly careful, head to settings > apps > all > Facebook > clear cache and data, then uninstall.

^^ this :)
Facebook does take the mickey a bit but its not something you need to worry about much. Just uninstall it and itl have no way of transmitting anything about you
