How to kill the battery

You don't want to drain the battery all the way down, use it as you would normally. In fact draining it all the way down does some damage to the battery and you won't get as much life from it afterwards. Please read up on lithium batteries before you continue to ruin your battery.
You should drain your battery down all the way every once in a while for the phone to calibrate how much capacity the battery has. Please read up on lithium batteries before ....

Let's just say you're both right. However, Li-Ion are not meant to be constantly drained and reused, drained, and reused, drained, and reused. That was the old Ni-Cad batteries; Li-Ion do not benefit from it, they'll get damaged. Many ask, "Well then, why do Li-Ion batteries lose charge over time (and why notebook batteries are notorious for losing charge and dying out quickly)?"

Believe it or not excessive heat on Li-Ion batteries damage these batteries. Ironic, right? Considering all of these electronic devices we use now produce a nice amount of heat.

The first time, I'd fully charge it, and you might want to deplete and recharge it like once every 2 months to check on the status of the battery--see if it's losing charge and if so, how much (which will help you decide whether or not it is worth replacing).

my first charge today lasted about 6 hours, with crazy heavy use. GPS, Wifi, downloading apps, monkeying around with settings and contacts.

i expect realworld use to be signifigantly better, as i wouldnt be on it nearly as much.

i just slappped her on the charger after the batt finally died.
