Help How to: Manually apply Froyo 2.2 (3.26.651.3) update

Alot of people are making down right false claims that this is the final release even when htc has come out and said more then once it is not. I would trust HTC on this and not people in the forums.

Nobody knows outside of HTC what it will be.

You must be hating life now that we have 2.2, considering you spent so much time and energy Thursday night and all day Friday trying to convince everyone that we wouldn't see it until late next week.

So hey, let's pretend HTC fix a bug in the release of 2.2 we're all running now.. big deal, we'll just download the new version when it comes out. Since updating Android doesn't nuke your phone, you can overlay newer versions without data loss or wasting time backing up/restoring, over and over.

I just did the update from http://filevo.com/es25thx7r1tv.html with the file

Filename:OTA_Supersonic_3.26.651.3-1.47.651.1_releaseu2cqjc2e98n4o6xn.zipSize:84.5 Mb (88566651 bytes) Report abuseUploaded on:2010-07-31 06:43:44

And it worked great just remember to rename the file to update.zip not update.zip.zip. Follow the previous instructions given and you should have no problems.

Well, I just did the update, and I get

Sorry! The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Non-stop for about 20 attempts. It was auto force-closing. Then it let me hit the force close button twice. Now, it just rebooted on it's own. And started the force close all over again. Neat.. heh.

Hrm.. now what..

lol that's what I get.. haha hrm..

When I go to update, I get "E: Signiture failed, Instillation aborted". Anyway to get around that?

Make sure it's in the right folder. I had same issue and had apparently dragged file into a sub folder of the root.

Do you see Android Robots at the bottom of that screen? I didn't when I had in wrong folder. I did when I had it in the root.

Well, I guess that means the final release won't be 3.26.651.3 then so we can all just update again. No big deal (except for enjoying Froyo a few days earlier). Unless HTC uses the same version number for different versions. That would be ok too because then I will start a class action lawsuit against HTC and get free phones for life. That's even better.

LOL

Note that under your Phone info above Software number there's also a Build number.

From Joe's Garage Software on up to Microsoft, anyone implementing process control is free to do that how they will in order to keep their act together and to serve customers.

This is _one_ Release Candidate for 3.26.651.3 - if they want to make the final rev that same number or different there's no cause for believing they're confused or concealing.

See my full file name picture above and look at your build number - as long as something identifies the package uniquely you've been done no harm.

Short-hand names or numbers are simply that.

I wonder, doesnt 86MB to each HTC EVO OTA.... seem like a lot of data?

There's too many notes in the song, Amadeus. ;)

It is what it is.

Look at the size of a service pack upgrade from Microsoft or a sub-revision change for OS X - I'm surprised it's this small.

OTOH - if you're saying, hey, isn't that a lot to push out over the network?

Then, yep, it is - but not so different from a Qik video session.

I believe their press release said that it would be rolled over some days beginning August 3 - no doubt that's to reduce the network load and roll it out by regions or network segments.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put a PC-installer .exe out there for user download like they did for the 2.1 upgrade for Samsung Moment owners - but we'll see if that's malarkey that I conjectured or not next week as well.

What do you mean by this step:

"6. Copy over the downloaded file to the root of your EVO directory structure."

So far I've downloaded the update file to my PC and moved it onto my SD card. I've also already got Astro on my phone.

Just means the update.zip belongs in /sdcard as seen by Astro.

PS - Norman, '72. (among a few other places after that) ;)

So basically all I need to do is:

1. Download the file to PC
2. Connect Evo to PC and set USB connect to disk drive
3. Move update zip into Evo drive
Then follow steps 7-16.

i didn't understand either

what it means is put in on your SD card, but not in a folder, just on the SD card so when you see it on your PC its on the first page/window and not in a sub folder

So I've proceeded to step 10 but after waiting several minutes the triangle/exclamation point screen has not changed (after holding power/vol up at same time). Any ideas?

hold power, then up. that doesn't work, hold up then power.

i did that. i forget which order, but the 2nd worked.

Back up and running with 2.2 and the Evo feels sooo much faster than it did before -- back to how it felt before that terrible OTA update htc put out last month. However, it seems Android Market is unavailable. Anyone else having this problem?

Things can take a little bit of time to settle in.

Also - probably your first browser move will be to clear its cache.

Huh.. I think Flash is working fine on my 2.2.

lol decent easy link to find out if I have 10.1 working correctly? :D It wouldn't play a .FLV file from a ... cough.. reputable web site. ;)

Babylon 5 Season 3 Episode 22 Z'Ha'Dum on SlashControl

Enlarge - so you can tap the lower right corner where it will show interlocking rectangles next to the (i) after the commercial.

That will pop the video out to full screen - should work correctly popped out as well as within stock browser.

That's your acid test.

Yeah, it looks like it's just having some connection issues as things slowly come back online. I went ahead and updated the prl and profile and I can access pretty much everything now but the weather widget.
