[How-To] Manually Update Nexus One to Android 2.2 FRF91 (7/1/2010)

Thanks for quick reply.

Are you able to tell me if there is anything wrong with the below steps I took to install 2.2 as its not working.

Why dont you delete the file you copied and just download the file using the android browser directly to the card?

I've tried several times and still nothing. It Just comes up with the same error message!!! Been at this for 4 hours now and im no closer than when I started!!

So that means that you did try downloading directly to the card from the android browser?

I'm assuming that you can still boot the phone under 2.1?

Yes that's right I have tried downloading straight to SD card and no luck. I am able to boot back to 2.1 to my dismay

have you tried just renaming the file just only "update"?

i know with window 7 and vista it automatically names it .zip.

I tried a few times as well. Downloading from my Mac. and from Dolphin. renamed to update.zip on the Mac and using Astro.

It still aborts. I think I'm just missing something very fundamental.

I rooted/unlocked to install wifi apps. Never installed a custom rom.

did you make sure the file was in the root folder when you downloaded with dolphin?

just updated my N1 (Tmobile unlocked version) to 2.2 - saw that E:/ error but it didn't seem to matter.

After rebooting, got a blank screen for quite a while when I pressed the Browser icon (or the phone icon), but after maybe 5 minute they're finally normal

So you're running a custom bootloader.

There are different instructions for rooted users. The stock file will not work for rooted users.

Very simple instructions. Worked great on my non-rooted t-mobile n1.
Advanced Task Manager will not kill itself like it used to; I have to "force stop" from the applications menu in settings.
Flash is awesome. Watched a video on youtube.
Everything is much faster.

Hello guys, if my phone is not rooted and I apply steps 1 - 10 will it mean that I will have rooted phone or bootloader will be unlocked(which I don't want to be)

successfully updated to FroYo!!!
thank you Fabolous! ;)
I'll post my impressions when I play a bit with it!

I was soo steamed when they released this, and I quickly went and downloaded and tried to install it, only to later find out it only worked if you had T-Mobile. Yes I realize there is a way to install it via rooting, but I don't want to do that (yet.) I hope they have the manual update or OTA available before the end of the week.

This is probably a stupid question, but I have looked a bit. Form what I have read, I need to do a recovery and they flash Froyo. Can I do a recovery by copying the recovery to the SD and installing it via the phone like the Froyo update? All the instructions I have seen point to fastboot by connecting your phone to your PC. I have been 100% unsuccessful doing this via my mac. When I originally unlocked the bootloader, I did do it with a PC.

Thanks!

If your bootloader is already unlocked, why not just use the link at the bottom of the first post that has FroYo pre-rooted?

It's the exact same thing as the OTA, except with su and busybox installed, and it won't require you to flash back to stock to install.

I just tried that error (status 7)
installation aborted
update (trying a few more things)

I downloaded: update-nexusone-FRF50-signed.zip
Then renamed to update.zip
followed the step to apply sdcard:update.zip

I get this on the screen immediately: E: signature verification failed Installation aborted.

Rock'n Froyo.
Haven't noticed any great overall performance boost over Cyanogen+Pershoot's OC/UV. The browser however is MUCH faster. And OS USB/Wifi Tethering is sweet. But I am missing my touch-to-focus Desire camera...

Thanks again!

Could not get it to work using the Mac. I had to use a PC to install the recovery image.

looks like I have it installed now... long day. now I need to get everything going.

EDIT: Resolved the problem. The "pre-rooted update zip" was the wrong file for this (non rooted) N1 version. The correct file is the one at the top of this thread. I read 'pre'-rooted to mean 'non' rooted... yea it was late last night when I tried to get 2.2 going..

This is an amazingly sweet update.

-------------
Tried with 2.2 files downloaded direct to phone (and moving to SD root) and downloaded via OSX and copied over to SD.

Jump through the hoops of renaming to Update.zip, moving file to SD card root, and going to recovery. I keep getting the "Signature verification failed"

I'm on a non rooted N1 bought direct from google. Been all over the web looking for an answer but no luck yet. Would love some help. Thanks :D

Current status:

Good to hear. I have mine going to. There is a ton of info out there, but could not find one that showed fastboot working from the Mac. Now that I am officially rooted, I shouldn't have to go though that again.

One problem I am having with the Pre-rooted file is I have no ringtones. It is using a default that I can't select/change
