[How-To] Manually Update Nexus One to Android 2.2 FRF91 (7/1/2010)

My nexus is rooted, running stock rom.

The last time I updated to FRF72, I lost root. (though I think I installed not the update, but a complete FRF72 build, maybe that's why.)

I restored my FRF50, and am now thinking of flashing FRF 83.

Question - will that make me lose root? If so, how do I maintain root? Is there a 'pre-rooted' upgrade?

So i was on my N1 when the Engadget widget popped up 2.2 released or something along those lines.

So i am now wondering if 2.2 is ready for all non rooted devices. I have EP30 build so can i manually update my N1 now?

Could anyone provide me with a DL link (work safe) as im at work.

All the best.

I went from FRF72 to FRF83, works fine. No noticeable difference to the OS, but the Market shows protected apps again.

Power button is fine, although mine always has been.

My power button is horrible.
It comes to a point where I have to remove the battery to use the phone.
It won't wake up the phone and the "click" sound is gone.

I compare it to buying a brand new car and not having the ON-OFF button working as it should. It sucks.

this is what I get:

"assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop"
."ro.build.fingerprint") == "google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF72/40830:user/release-keys"
E: error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
installation aborted"

Any yodas out there who know what it means?

Appreciate it. :o

I've been researching this.
Seems like a lot of N1 owners are having the same issue with the power buttom when manually updating to ERE72.
Who knows....

I was on 72 and just manually updated to 83. Here's what I did.
1. Download and rename "update" and copy to SD card. Here's a link to the file to download:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF83-from-FRF72.684bd56a.zip
2. Turn off phone. Then hold down trackball and power button.
3. Select "Bootloaded" and then "Recovery."
4. When see log press power and volume up buttons and choose "update.zip."

That's it! No need to revert back to FRF50 or 2.1. Worked fine for me. Have not noticed any differences between 72 and 83.
Enjoy!

Hmmm, nah I say the easiest way is to flash this. ;)

The official incremential FRF72 -> FRF83

Thanks for this link. I've updated the first post with this link as well, for those on FRF72 :D

So this is not FRF83, it has updated to FRF72.

A little misleading, the file name and the thread.

I've updated the files for every upgrade path. That is 2.1 to FRF50, FRF50 to 72, FRF72 to 83, or FRF50 to 83.

So, regardless of which version you're on now, you can get to FRF83.

Just performed the manual update, no issues or differences in performance (for better or worse) that I can tell. Runs as smoothly as it did on FRF72!

Going from frf50 to frf83, after the "apply sd card:update.zip" step, for me it said "install complete", and I had to actually choose "reboot now" with the trackball. When I went from ere27 to frf50 it went through all the reboots on its own. Was this unusual?

I don't think this is unusual. I was able to manually update from 72 to 83 and noticed the same thing. Everything was ok through. Make sure you have the FRF83 build by going to "settings", "about phone" and go the the last category, "build number." That field should indicate FRF83.

t-mo rooted, im on FRF50, went to flash 72 and got an error. Tried to go straight to 83 and got same error message installation aborted

Mine did the same thing. No issues. Update worked like a champ.

I have a friend that has had a problem with the power button since 2.1 on the nexus so it is not the build its just a faulty phone and you should exchange it if you can. How is the battery life on frf83? I love frf50 but the battery life is killing me!!!

I ran into this same problem. I think my SD card was corrupted so every time I copied my update.zip to the card it would keep the older FRF50->FRF72 patchset. What you should do is make sure you do a disk scan on the SD card and make sure you copy the update.zip and it should work. Another thing is to verify you are using the 83 from 72 update and not the 83 from 50 update. Good Luck!

I currently have Eclair running on my N1, with no mods, roots, or whatever else, what do I need to do in order to put Froyo on my N1?
