Help How to Mark All/Select All Email as read?

if you're in gmail, use the checkboxes on the left. If you're using the stock email app, I have no earthly idea.

I can't seem to get that to work. When I pull up the mail, the boxes are greyed out and I can't check anything.

Large emails have to load or else they do not get marked as read. Some of these that have attachments take while to load on the phone.

It this was something not thought about then My view is google wants us to move to GMail - Hidden agendas.

BlackBerry email engine has this figured like I have never seen.

Another thing since Nov 6 launch - My corporate email accounts do no auto check even after I set check account every 5 mins. Not sure if this is because I Have the accounts set as POP vs. IMAP. Is Anyone else having this issue if so I can atleast go to Email Admins and they may need to change something within the email servers.

Make sure you have Batch Operations checked in the settings form gmail.

It will work then but we still need a select all instead of selecting each individual email.

I notice that I will only get notifications for my e-mail accounts if my laptop has not already synced the accounts. If you have a computer that is checking on a regular basis that may be the issue. Even then it still loads all the new messages, just doesn't give a notification for them. Not sure of a solution for this.

This issue alone is causing me to dislike an otherwise awesome phone. Not only can I not mark them all as read, but the phone vibrates every 15 minutes telling my I've got new email when it's actually the old messages that I haven't marked as read yet. I've already gotten to where I don't even look at my phone anymore when it vibrates and I'm missing work emails that I should be responding to right away. I refuse to go thru my phone several times a day and mark 20+ emails as read, one at a time. I will not recommend this phone to anybody until this issue is resolved.

i agree the alert is sometimes activated for old emails that are unread, but it doesn't seem to be consistent.

i had the HTC Hero and it actually grouped the email by "conversation" the way Gmail thru a browser does. I thought this was Android behavior but it seems it was the Sense UI overlay.

do if we could just get a developer to write an email app that mimic's HTC's email or better yet the BB email client.

Title says it... anyone know how?

If you're using a POP3/IMAP mail account, K-9 Mail has a "Mark All" feature, along with a few more that the native POP3 app does not. You will also not get "re-notified" regarding previously downloaded messages. Also, if you have multiple accounts, they get different color LEDs.

I totally agree. I used to have a Blackberry and had no issues with the email client. It's a real pain marking individual emails as read from three different email accounts. I wondered if K-9 had this - maybe worth checking out.

I did download k-9 on my us cellular mesmeize and it does allow you to select all. Much better than the app that comes on the phone. :)

Using an HTC Desire go to Unread, check any email, press Menu and I get a Select All or Deselect All option, and then Mark read.

On the thunderbolt, you can select all email by checking one message in the list, then instead of select any of the standard options that pop up (Mark Read, Delete, or Move to), press the menu button and the option to select all or deselect all will pop up. Press select all followed by the command from the original pop up list to perform the desired action.

Motorola Atrix
Options>Select All>Options>Mark Unread>Options>Select All>Options>Mark Read.

For whatever reason it seems to only give you the mark as unread if you have a mix of messages that read and not read. Not the best solution but it works for me.
