Root How to move apps/backup/restore with partition/a2sd

slip6

Newbie
I'm partitioned and have DarkTremor a2sd flashed.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, a2sd (not Apps2sd from Play store) will automatically move apps to my ext4 partition.

I remember reading I believe on xda forum for Decks reloaded that I should not EVER move any programs via Apps2sd OR via the Manage Applications under Settings. Also, that if I view an app under Manage Applications it will incorrectly give an option to "move to SD card" but that in actuality Android is reading it wrong and it is already on the ext4 partition of the SD card.

1. Is this correct?

2. The main point of creating a partition and flashing a2sd is to free up internal RAM and move it to the a2sd partition on SD card, correct? Internal shows 446MB (241MB free). I partitioned a 1024MB for the ext4, and set swap = 0 (as I read that swap can actually slow down the phone, I think)...anyone else set swap to 0? And is there any downside to having a2sd?

3. Titanium Backup Pro has a multitude of preferences. I'm going to read the howto's on the dev website, but was wondering if there's anything else I should be doing differently BECAUSE I have a2sd installed? I'm assuming I should check the option "Backup app external data" as "Enabled (Always)".

4. The most important thing I understand is never to restore System apps (so unchecking the backup System apps option in the first place should prevent me from restoring them). Is this true?

5. Do I ever need to backup the cache for apps?

6. "Max backup History". This doesn't seem to be able to keep different versions of an app backed up. Is there a good program that does?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks :D!

1.yes you are correct. you do not need to move apps like that. if anything you will need to get terminal emulator.

launch terminal emulator and type in first
[HIGH]su[/HIGH]

then:
[HIGH]a2sd reinstall[/HIGH]

this will move the apps. you have to do this if you flashed dt. it will not automatically do it for you. however, after doing this then any apps you get from the market will automatically do it. you will only need to enter the command once.

2. not many roms support ext so you may have issues using it. ext3 is all you need.....so you may need to redo the partition.

3. as far as tb goes nothing special really needs to be done other then the usual. i only use tb really to make backups i never really touch anything else that it has to offer.

4. correct in tb anything in red is a system app so never back or restore them.

5.no need to back up cache. these are just temp files

6.not really sure on this one, sorry:(
