Help How to optimize for primary internet connection?

New EVO user here. I live at a location where 3G is the fastest internet. The EVO is my internet connection for my laptop PC. I use the "Hotspot" and also "Phone as Modem - USB tether" depending on the battery charge level. I turn my auto and background sync "OFF" when I surf or play online games. I have ran several speed tests from different sites and different servers. After averaging out my speed test returns, it seems the "Hotspot" is a little faster which suprised me. I am looking for information on optimizing my EVO and possible PC settings to increase internet data transfer rate and to lower my ping/latency. Are there applications that will do this? Are there EVO settings that will stop all applications from using any bandwidth so I can utilize all the bandwidth? Any tip's or trick's I'm missing? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

just pm a moderator and ask them to combine the two. you can't just delete them :(

i'm certainly watching to see if anyone has any additional suggestions. I would love to tweak something to make it faster...hell the same goes for my wifi at the house. I don't know of anything I can tweak in the router settings to keep it from losing so much bandwidth in over the air but I would love to find something

With any wireless technology, you're going to have much higher ping/latency rates and inconsistent transfer rates (even if you're stationary) -- and you're using two different types (CDMA and WiFi). Unfortunately, I don't think there is much you'll be able to do to improve the speeds you received where you'll notice much of a difference except, as you said, manually disabling any apps that are calling the mothership.

It seems that there are Applications that still "call the mothership" even after I uncheck the Background data and Auto-sync boxes (Home Screen>Menu>Settings>Accounts & sync). I left these two boxes unchecked overnight and still received emails. This leads me to believe that there are other Applications using precious bandwidth without my permission or knowledge. I wish there was a way I could see, in real time, all of the applications using 3G bandwidth. I could at least turn those apps off temporarily while I on my laptop.

I deleted a few posts to remove clutter. The best way to get anything done is to report a post. :D

jpherrington, I was informed that you wrote a visitor message on Rob's profile. It's a nice gesture, but Rob is actually the site owner and isn't the right person to contact for this. Moderators do this kind of things so you'll know if you ever need something done again.

By the way, reporting a post is even better than sending a private message to one moderator as every mod sees it and it usually gets done really fast. It might seem impersonal but we read every report. Private messaging one mod isn't the best way to do it, although it is an option. ;)

PS: I don't have anything to add about the thread topic, can't help you with that. ;)
