Root How to Overclock?

I am rooted, running CM7, and I think I want to take the plunge and overclock. I didn't want to start screwing around without knowing what I'm doing/what I might change. How do I go about doing this? There's a lot of options in "Performance Settings" as well as "CPU settings" within it. What is "Compcache RAM usage?" What should I/could I mess with to make my phone a little more responsive? Thanks.

Well, first things first. Make a backup. Then as you found in "Performance Settings" there's a few things you can do there. I would open CPU settings and set the top speed to 800 and the bottom to 250. Then enable compcache to the default (18%) setting. Make sure JIT is enabled. VM Heap size could be good at 24m. Check the "lock home in memory" checkbox.

Now these are the settings I have used, YMMV. A truly prudent person would make one change at a time, with backups inbetween.

Then if you still think that 800 (I personally find it just fine, faster is worse) isn't fast enough, there's a couple of other things you can do, either a different kernel, or an app with a compatable kernel, but that's later.

good luck
