Help How to prevent accidental removal of shortcuts?

zmetman62

Lurker
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 and sometimes let my young kids play games on my phone. Invariably, I get the phone back missing a widget or a shortcut. Obviously only the shortcut or app is deleting and can be put back rather simply (since it was not uninstalled) but besides being an annoyance, it's sometimes difficult to remember what was in that empty spot until you try to access it.

Is there a way to lock this down by restricting or turning off delete rights the way you can in an iphone?

Plus... Most 3rd party launchers have a Backup/Restore function so you could put things back like they were should they get lost.

Last time I let my kids play with my phone was the last time I let my kids play with my phone.

Consider the " kid's place" launcher as well. It only allows access to the apps you choose. There is also "kytephone" which is a launcher designed for letting a child be able to make limited phone calls and texts and has gps tracking of the phone. I use nova prime and kid's place. Kid's place also re launches apps when a child closes it. My 2 year old can't resist the home button.

Think everyones said it.
I use Nova Prime launcher but Go Launcher is free and also has a lock function that locks long-presses on the home screen.
I duno if the stock launcher has such a thing? It should.

Nice one man

Thanks everyone, I will try one or more of those options. On a related note, how does adding these apps/overlays etc., effect performance. Before my S3 I had the Droid Charge which seemed to get bogged down overtime, especially after I added apps, etc.

Some launchers are really bloated and out dated but Nova and Apex are really fast and efficient.
I cant speak for the others mentioned

P.s, its hard to bog down the s3 mate. Its more than capable of running anything in the play store just now :)

Another option is to get the kids an un-activated phone. That's what our daughter did.

Kid's place works great. It loads fast and closes fast. I have not received a text or call while using it though, so I can't comment on that.

I'm glad it fit your needs. I've seen quite a few more kid's launchers available now, but they seem bogged down in unnecessary features.
