Root How to put GB on the phone?

At what step is the leaked Ginger Bread put on the phone? i am running Gummy and thus far some things are not working on it, the memory usage isn't good.

I flashed mine back to EE4 using Odin and then flashed the EP1W leak over EE4. Im running the 912 release of the Infinity ROM now and I like it a lot, its based off of the EP1W leaked.

I think I may have misunderstood your post. The title asked "How to put Gingerbread on the phone" and your post stated you were unhappy with Gummy.

I thought you were asking how to wipe your phone and put Gingerbread on it.





First what version of Gummy are you running?

If you are running the GBE version of Gummy then it was built on the EP1W leak (Gingerbread) and it goes on the phone the phone during the flash along the rest of the ROM.

If youre on the FE version of Gummy that is Froyo and you need to flash the GBE version to get Gingerbread.

Hopefully that answers your question :D

to root my phone and put Gummy on it. I'm not sure what Gummy version I'm running, whether I'm running Gingerbread or not, and what else (if any) was changed when doing some of this through ODIN and the rest through the recovery tool (up+home+power). When I look at the details in the phone settings I'm not sure what to even look for.

Would you mind telling me what to look for? I'll post back here what I see.

Did you download the files from that site? If so - you are on GC FE 2, which is Froyo. The GBE (Gingerbread) version just officially came out at some point today, so unless you were running a release candidate I would assume you are on FE.

A good way to check:
Go to Settings > About phone > Build number
If the last three characters are EE4 then you are on GC FE 2.
 
Thanks, dwitherell, and thank you Chris and trparks for the help you have given me in turning this pretty-good-android phone into a great one. I'm sure that Verizon is eating its nails knowing that a whole lot of folks out there are opting not to buy the Bionic (or maybe even the next generation of phones).

How do I go about flashing Gingerbread? Do I use ODIN to do this, or is this done back at the recovery tool? Outside of following trpark's tutorial (I downloaded the files referenced from his site) is there anything else I need to do in order to have my Charge doing what it should be doing? Again, thank you!!!

I'm really a visual learner, to be honest, and I do know a little about Linux (run Linux Mint 11 on my family's computers, but am no expert) and different programming syntax's, but beyond that I'm lost in the dark.

I am running the Froyo version of Gummy, but would like to run the GBE version. Do I just repeat the steps I took in trpark's tutorial, and use a different ROM than the GummychargedFE_2.0 one?

After going into the TSM settings and electing to UNhide the clock display in the status bar AND changing the font color to white (#ffffff) AND rebooting the phone I still do not have the clock showing in the status bar. Weird. GummychargedFE_2.0 does have my phone running snappier, but it it also does not feel 'complete'.

trparky has instructions up for the GBE variant of Gummy Charged (although it seems they are not fully "official" yet - check the Root and Flash GummyCharged Gingerbread Instructions tab) that you could check out - but essentially yes, that should work.

Did you make sure to (after setting the color) press the center circle when changing the font color? Maybe try again and reboot - not sure why it's having issues for you.
 
I guess it's my age catching up to me, but I remember (I think, LOL!!!) one of you guys on this site writing that the official GBE is out, yet I'm wondering why trpark's site doesn't reflect the change? Is the GBE not really 'all that and more' or is something else up?

That may have been me actually - yes the official GBE 2 is out, but I am not sure if trparky has made his instructions "official" - meaning I'm not sure if he has fully tested them yet (hence the lack of editing - GBE has been officially released and the files are available on his site - if the first line or so of his Gingerbread instructions still state otherwise, disregard as that is no longer true) - I don't want to speak for him on that.
 
I am trying to load the GummyChargedGBE_2.0 file and it seems that my phone is locked up in the "Samsung" stage. It's been at least 15 minutes in this stage. Instructions at trpark's site say it should take 5-15 minutes. What should I do?
 
I used Clockwork, and everything went smoothly on the second attempt. Weird. GBE is waaayyy faster than stock, but you guys already knew that. :) I did notice this morning that everything in the status bar was gone, and a reboot of the phone brought the status bar back. Strange. When backing everything up with CWM what do I need to do in order to extract the contents of the backup?

When you want to do a nandroid restore (I believe these weren't working until the 4.0.1.4 version), you just go to "backup and restore" in CWM, select "Restore", then select the nandroid backup you already made. FWIW, this is like a system restore point on a computer, as it will put your phone back into the exact state it was in when you made the backup (minus the kernel and modem I believe) - everything done since then will be lost. Hope this helps!
 
Just checking in. So far, the biggest plus that I've seen with GBE 2.0 is that the funny is snappy. I notice much less jagginess. The biggest gripe I have is that I periodically lose the status bar altogether and only a reboot brings it back. Not sure what that's about, I couldn't find any settings that prevent that from happening. All in all, I'm pleased. So, now the wife wants her phone rooted. (cross your fingers)
