Help How To Question No 3456753?

Yeah ok, title a bit tongue in cheek BUT, downloaded the manual to the Samsung Galaxy Ace which arrived today (vice Nokia 5230) and I cant see how to remove unwanted icons from home page, and why do I have icons on 'several pages' - can't I scrunch 'em up?

Next question when I sort this out :p

*moved to Samsung Galaxy Ace forum*

The default Samsung Launcher (TouchWiz) doesn't let you adjust icon spacing, but other launchers like ADW or Launcher Pro do. I assume Go Launcher will, too, but i've never tried that one.

And yes, to delete icons you long-press (touch and hold for 2 seconds or more) and a trash can appears at the bottom of the screen ... drag it there.

Yes! Yes! Yes! the earth moved!! Next - removing excess pages from 'home' I seem to have 3 blank pages!!

Geez, you keep making me fire up my old Captivate just to check stuff!! (and I'm loving it)

There are two ways you can go about editing the home screens ... one is to press menu>edit, the other is just pinch zoom (like you're shrinking a picture in the gallery) and you get the thumbnail view of all your home screens. Long press the one you want to get rid of and drag it to the trash can at the bottom. You should then see a screen outline with a "+" in it in case you want to add it back.

Keep 'em coming. :D

Again, in your debt, the shrink and press option worked, if I press it in large screen all I get is add to:

THANKS!
Right - next? Er, oh, hang on, can't find anything right now but surely things will appear!

Even between differing models from the same manufacturer, not all options are the same, which is why we strictly insist that support questions stay within the specific device forum. Image if I have given you the instructions for an HTC or Motorola phone and those options weren't available to you. It would be like saying to fix everything press the blue button, but all you've got are red and green buttons.

It keeps me out of trouble, anyway. ;)

I understand, but its the same old story, new to a forum, not sure where to post. I own a forum and my members all have the same problem, but as its a private members ex UK army one, I leave them to it. When I first arrived, I did not even notice that the Ace had a section, now I am happy.

OK loony, try this one:

Playing with sat nav, learning how to, wrong address got saved, how to delete? Swipe into bin does not seem to work here.

Would that be google maps our navigation? While they use the same data, they behave somewhat differently.

No this is when I open the navigation button (blue arrow)

That is Google navigation and is tied to maps. The only way I've found to remove recently entered addresses (correct or incorrect) is to go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications, select the 'all' tab, scroll down to Map, tap on it and clear data. This will remove all map and navigation data so if you have any saved locations, they will be removed to. However, if you got to maps.google.com and login with your google account for the phone, you can add them to your saved list there and I usually star the ones I want to keep handy so I can navigate quickly to starred places.

If you delete the maps data, you will have to reaccept the terms of service agreement next time you launch it but favorites and starred places will sync back to the phone and then you can navigate to them there.

If you ignore the incorrectly entered address, it will eventually drop off the list as you navigate to more places.

Ring Tones. My Files in settings. I can transfer a ring tone but - where to? What folder contains the ring tones?

custom ring tones are saved in a folder on your sd card called 'ringtones'. It may be in media/audio/ringtones, but it could be in any folder with the same name.

Maybe 'Sounds'? It can be anywhere, if you even have one at all. Have you ever created or saved a custom notification ringtone? The convention is to store that stuff in a 'media' folder for organizational purposes.

You can just go ahead and create the directory structure /media/audio/ringtones and /media/audio/notifications and put any future files in their respective folders. Even if another ringtone folder exists on your sd card, Android will read them both (or three, four or however many may exist.)

Sounds only contains my music files. I have only the ringtones that came with the phone until i download these two. I tried KIES to no avail, install was auto into downloads, but I can move them easily enough using MY Files, but the destination is invisible. I tried to change ringtone via the native button but it can only see the built in rubbish. Eventually I want to replace them all.

Without root you will never be able to remove the system sounds. You don't have permissions to delete files in that folder.

On your /sdcard make a folder called media. in that folder make another folder called audio. Finally in the audio folder make a folder called ringtones. Move the ring tone files from downloads to the ringtones folder you just created. When you disconnect the phone, the new ringtones should be in your list.

get back in a minute ..................... tick tick

done - rebooting phone

The ringtone for phone calls is in, but the ring tone for the messages notifications is also in same folder - success, to a point. When I try to change notification tone, its not visible so they must be in another folder.

Half way there

Sorted, firstly I created a notification folder it should have been notifications, now both downloads work fine - simples *click*

Screen this time. Why does the icons move where I do not want them easier than move to where I DO want them. Moved two icons by accident and they wont go back! Stoopid screen! Well, I have to blame something!

Yes. Spelling counts. ;)

It depends where you are putting them. As long as there is room, they should move freely. You may have a widget occupying some space, that you don't realize. If you begin to move an icon and you try to put it where there isn't enough room for it, it will either jump to the closest available space or back to where it was. And, if you are dragging it to the lower part of the screen, make sure you don't accidentally drop it on the launch bar, unless you want it there.
