Help How to read Chinese sms?

So the LG Optimus V has Chinese, both traditional and simplified, built in the phone. It can read chinese websites and emails. I've downloaded Google's Pinyin IME (and tried many other input apps) to be able to type in Chinese (I can only use pinyin). When I send a text message, I can see it went out in Chinese, however, when the person receives it, it is in symbols or jibberish. How can I fix this? I want to be able to receive in Chinese as well.

Even when I set my phone's local language to Chinese, the text is still received in jibberish.

PLEASE HELP!

I'm having the same problem with Latin non-ASCII characters. If you search the Android bug reports, you'll see that this is an unbelievably huge bug that apparently has been there from the beginning, i.e., several years.

Even though the bug reports suggest an Android bug, I'm not sure if it isn't limited to U.S. cell networks. (I just can't imaging that Android users in France, Germany, and the rest of Europe would put up with messaging that doesn't support

I really do wish there was an easier way though. Anybody else find a solution? I'd really like to use the default texting app.
