How to remove default android battery icon from notification bar

Found a similar thread but had no solution

I am using a BMW and Powertutor and both are showing the remaining battery level.
Want to remove the less than useless default one because the notification area is getting crowded.
Any idea?

Still waiting for an answer.
It is possible because some ROMs get rid of it.

Btw, phone is rooted.
