Help How to restore apps in android 4.1.2?

Gunilla

Lurker
I have four Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.2 3G in a project where I lend tablets during a course. I have a shared Google mail address in these tablets. Before each time I'll lend them I restore them to factory mode and then install the common Google mail address. In two of the tablets with android 4.0.4 loaded all previously installed apps automatically are restored, but in the other two tablets that have been updated to android 4.1.2 this does not happen. I have to manually download and install each app individually. Why is this and how can I solve it?

Welcome to AF! :)

If you head to Settings -> Backup & Reset on the 4.1.2 devices, is Backup My Data checked? If not, check it.

When you reset the tablets next, on initial setup, make sure you check the box which says Restore from Google Servers (or similar, I don't recall the exact wording) and the apps you've installed should restore automatically.

Thank you for the answer.

Backup My Data is checked and Automatic restore is also checked.
In the setup process I also check Restore from Google. The settings are restored but not the apps.

Yes, Syncronize Appdata is checked.

In the tablets with 4.0.4 the apps are restored in about five minutes.
In the tablets with 4.1.2 I have waited for half an hour without any restored app.

May be it takes longer time?

I had the same experience when I updated from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2. Had to re-install the apps I wanted BUT I had unchecked the auto re-install boxes as I wanted a fresh setup. A factory reset when I had the tab setup with the apps I wanted installed and the boxes for auto re-install, does exactly that. Settings, apps contacts and appointments all restored from my google account backup. Got me stumped as to why it is not working for you

4.1.2 on a Tab 2? Wasn't aware Samsung ever released that, except for the "at&t" versions. Everyone else went from 4.1.1 to 4.2.

If they're out of warranty, I'd just install CWM and use a nandroid backup for restore.

Thats where I got my 4.1.2 before Samsung could bestow 4.2 on me :)
