Root How to restore sd-ext partition in CWM

Hello

Was curious if anyone could help me with this, I've tried to look it up through this forum and the net but couldn't get a clear answer...

If I do a backup in cwm of a rom that uses link2sd, like the awesome megatron rom, I noticed that after I do a restore that the apps that were linked to the sd card are missing. Then if I reinstall the app the original data is missing. It's not restoring the ext, is this normal?

Yes, it is normal because the CWM we use currently doesn't or isn't able to make a backup of the sdext. However, as long as the sdext isn't fiddled with, and the ROM you're using is the same as the previous, you can open link2sd, hit the menu button, and look for "recreate mount scripts", and it'll restore connectivity with everything that was stored on the partition.

Actually if you create 2 partitions, 1 being ext4 and the other being FAT32 and make them both primary partitions you should have sd-ext functionality in CWM...

You have to create the 2 partitions with Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7.7 (Free Program) on your Windows-based computer with your MicroSD Card in a card reader. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR CARD BEFORE DOING SO!!!

Nice, thanks for this info. I will have to try this out. Just curious though, after reading the simple guide it made me wonder why would this would make anything different than full formatting an sd card using windows then ext partitioning using cwm, wouldn't it also have the same file systems on both of the partitions just as the xda link explains using the mini tool? Is it because cwm makes ext3, while I could make an ext4 directly with that mini tool? And link2sd mounting the ext 3 into ext 4 wouldn't do the same either? Noticed that even after mounting ext4 in link2sd the minitool still sees it as ext 3, so I must be missing something, does it have to do with the reverse method of creating the partition as explained in the link? Sorry for the questions..

Another reason is cause CWM can only create one partition and can't create a 2nd one without keeping the first one intact, if I'm not mistaken Koumajutsu also has an SDParter.apk program that he made specifically for making partitions on your card right from the phone lol, I'll see if I can find it but I believe it would havta be modified to work on the TU at that point...

As far as your question goes I'm not really sure, but all I know is that if you create 2 partitions on your SD Card it'll use one for /data and the other for the dalvik-cache... this info is info I obtained way back when I was on the Prevail, you might wanna have a look over in the Prevail forum for info pertaining to card partitioning and SD-EXT they've really got the Prevail hooked up with that stuff and a lot of the stuff that they have implemented for the Prevail could definately be modified and put to good use for the TU here...

Ok, I will check out the prevail forum some more. I do remember having to use ADB tool to make partitions on my sd card when setting up to install kouma's kernel using ctmod since the internal memory and ram was pretty low for that phone so that way we can use the sdcard for absolutely everything. So maybe using adb to partition will do the same trick you're suggesting for cwm sd-ext backup/restore functionality?
