How To How to root and install droid 2.1

wanting to ask a noobish question, if i do this will i have to go to verizon to have my phone reactivated to make calls, texts, etc? I wouldn't think so but i feel i'd rather be safe than sorry

Nope - I haven't had to active jack. All my email, my VMs (in GV) SMS, etc are all there.

The phone remains activated unles you do something foolish like a factory reset - and even then, it may still retain *that* info (don't know for sure as I have yet to perform a factory reset).

ok, thankyou. i ended up going through with the update to 2.1 and still retained everything except for my apps(which i had backed up anyway, lol). I'm still on 2.1 but i may restore back to 2.0.1 just because of the feel of the new fw

There are a couple of others out there that are rated highly - Pete's Bugless Beast and the Sholes 1.2 are a pair that I have tried - I opted for Pete's b/c it allowed me to OC without having to lose my WiFi, and it looks fabulously sharp - (Windows 7 user, so I like glass effects).

screew it i tried and tried and kept failing. anyone in fresno wanna root my damn phone for me.

I don't think the tutorial could be any simpler. What problems are you having? When you say you keep failing, what is happening?

Be as specific as possible. PM me if you need to.

if you installed the sprecovery correctly, and then reboot into recovery mode, the 'background' will be a large yellow android and the menu (in very tiny letters) will be in blue letters.

Check your steps and try again - getting the SPRecovery on there is pretty easy to do, but you have to be exact....

do i just drag and drop the files onto the sdcard or is there a specific file i have to put them into. and i dont see a nandroid or root file on me sd card

The root on the SD Card is the upper level of the SDCard - if you use Astro and keep moving up until it shows \, then you've gone too far - in Astro, the SDCard root is actually \sdcard. That is where they mean by root of sdcard.

E:Can't open /cache /recovery/command

im getting this message at the system recovery menu after booting and holding down the x key and power.

I follwed this guide and am now running 2.1 on my droid, but now I want to overclock it too 800mhz. How would i do that?

im very curious to know also.

ok so i have an issue. when i slide out my key board the touch screen does not work. none of the icons work and i have to close the keyboard to get them to work again.

I did everything but when i try to view the nexus live wallpaper it wont show nothing... Why?? Did i missed something?:(

I've been out of the loop regarding this thread for quite some time, but when the 2.1 rom was first made available, the Nexus Live wallpaper was non-functional.

I haven't heard whether that was fixed or not.

If everything else is working, then no, you did not miss anything. It just so happens that that particular wallpaper will not work in the rom.

Weird....all went well when I rooted. It all looks good except that all my apps that I had downloaded are gone. I did back them up so they are safely stored on my sd card. But...I can't download Astro or anything else for that matter from the market! It just says download started and sits there! I have verified that I have 2.1 now. All in all it looks good. So any suggestions? I really need a solution here. Worst case, I will just have to undo everything and start over but I really hate to do that!

I just got the droid and i didnt want to wait for the 2.1 update so i got it using the Flan way. it works fine except for the android market. when i try to install a app it will say "Starting Download..." and will just sit there.
