Root How to Root, Freeze System Apps, then Unroot (stock 2.3.4 only)

Remember, before performing an OTA update, make sure to unfreeze your apps or the update will fail.

Also remember, if you freeze the wrong system app, you may bork your phone. If unfreezing doesn't get it going again, use RSD to reflash your phone with a SBF to get back to original stock condition. Don't forget to backup your contacts with your Google account.

By rooting your phone you take FULL responsibility for any problems that may arise.

• insure your drivers are installed on your computer
  
  
• check USB debugging, found in Settings > Applications > Development
  
  
• download Pete's Motorola Root Tools and unzip folder (MacOS or Linux instructions are found there also)
  
  
• connect your phone and computer via USB
  
  
• open Pete's folder, run Pete's Motorola Root Tools
  
  
• click "Root My Phone" and wait until finished
  
  
• download and install AntTek App Manager, run, at Superuser Request tap "Allow", freeze the apps you wish to (check out this post Cory made about safe apps to remove)
  
  
• exit AntTek
  
  
• in Pete's Motorola Root Tools click "Unroot My Phone"
  
  
• in Unroot Warning window, click "Yes"
  
  
• in Restore System Files window, click "No"
  
  
• your phone might receive a Superuser Request to run shell, if so tap "Allow"
  
  
• wait until finished (you'll see it say it's unfreezing sys apps, but it isn't unfreezing what you just froze)
  
  
• unplug phone and uninstall AntTek if you wish
  
  
• to unfreeze apps, simply start from the beginning and unfreeze instead of freeze

If you root, I am unsure as to why one would unroot? Also after I rooted I skipped the freezing of apps. I just moved them out of the sys/app folder onto a spot on my SD card.

Yeah, a lot of people do that. I just delete them, myself.
