Root How to Root from 2.1

thanks for the video! i dont know if the sfi file was corrupt or something but when i downloaded this one it worked. and for other people having trouble. try to do it without opening the command box. when i did it without that it worked perfectly... Now time to root!!!!

Enjoy!

ok...lol here i am again with another problem. when i try to install a rom it says update.zip install blocked, installation aborted... what did i do wrong?

Where do I DL RSDlite4.6???

I am half tempted to say "if you are serious with your question, you probably should not be performing the tasks on your phone.. "..

but.. I'll just be nice and say that the links for all files are in the original post to this thread.

Firefox wasnt wanting to DL them this morning I guess, lol They are working for me now.

I am running JRummys Red Remix, looks amazing.

Everything was going perfect until i went to reboot to recover and unpack the updatezip. Then it wouldnt install and said (installation aborted) I tried and retried with no luck. so I just remembered that i didnt even check to see if my firmware was 2.0.1 it said it was 2.1 still! I did everything right! It passed on rsdlite4.6 and i had to reactivate and everything. the thing was it had a little icon that looked like a sync icon next to the coverage bars while i was resetting my gmail. Im guessing they must have implemented an automatic update. cuz I didn't press anything authorizing it. Or it never was 2.0.1 but it reset the backround and i lost all my apps so it seemed like i did everything right except when i went into settings it says its still 2.1! Any ideas???? I plan on just repeating the process this weekend and seeing if it works. but I'd like to know if anyone else has had a similar problem.

When you renamed the file, did you name it "update.zip" or "update" ??

VZW_A855_ESD56_QSC6085BP_C_01.3E.01P_SW_UPDATE_03. sbf

Is what i used to flash with the newest version of rsdlite 4.6 but it didnt roll back to 2.0.1 all it did was erase all my apps and make me reactivate.

"Now if you just want root access, jump on over to this thread for adb directions on how to gain root without flashing a ROM."

This link doesn't take me to the page to adb without flashing a ROM. I did the first part perfectly. Great job on your instructions. Easy and everything worked. I got my droid today and I wanted just to root it, but keep the default ROM. Maybe later I will delve into more ROMs.

Actually I have a question. Will flashing the ROM remove all of the default "sounds" like the default "DROID" alert? If so is there any way I can pull it off the phone. I have had zero luck finding the sound on the internet.

Anyway, I love the instructions, but the link in that sentance doesn't take me to the page where I can root without flashing. It takes me to here http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html

Great work. Thank you for your help

Okay I'm dumb and just did not scroll far enough into the post.

My question still stands about the default "DROID" alert. I love it and don't want to delete it, by flashing my ROM and installing a new one. Let me know if it destroys that sound of if you know anywhere that I can download it. Obviously Google searches including any of the keywords; Droid, Motorola, Commercial, Sounds, Downloads, Ringtones, Alerts gets you so many results that are completely useless.

Thank you. I got my Motorola Druid about 4 hours ago and yes, I am a noob. Not for long, Jumping in head first.

All my sounds are still there.. even custom ringtones I created and saved on my drive.

Each ROM will install with different default applications and settings. Its one of those things where you need to install a few different ones to find one to your liking..

enjoy.

Get ROM Manager (the $3.99 version).. you can flop between roms quite easily until you find one you want..

Flashing a ROM will not erase the droid sound necessarily...it is completely possible that a ROM creator could erase that sound and replace it with another one just for the heck of it, but it is unlikely anyone would do that as I am sure most all of us love that sound!

sorry if this has been asked else where but i'm getting frustrated. i understand what needs to be done, have all the drivers and software, my problem is with the sbf file. i've looked on about 3-4 different forums and noone's sbf file works..... it always tells me this 'Failed flashing process. Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization values from INI file. (0x7029); phone connected'
this happens with EVERY sbf file i've tried. can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm am teetering on the edge, ready to dive in and try this, but I can't seem to find an answer to one question...

I see the warnings that this will delete the data on the droid (specifically, the apps).

What will it do to my contacts? I have over 700 contacts on my droid and am paranoid that I might lose them.

If you synced tort contacts via gmail, then you should be fine. And as for the warning to rooting your phone, you should be fine. As long as you read the guides carefully. And to back up your apps, get my backup pro out some other back up app in the market.

I took the plunge and rooted. All contacts reloaded from my gmail account. Woohoo!

However, now wifi isn't working. When I go into settings to turn on wifi, it just says "Error" under the wifi box. ugh.

EDIT: I guess it would help if I posted which one. I installed the 1ghz Kernel that is linked on theunlockr site.

There is a wifi fix kernel I believe.. Writer that out first then reply.. I can't link you for I'm using tapatalk.

If you have lookout you will be fine. Just backup before you start. Lookout saves contacts photos and call history. All available from any web browser at mylookout.com. just checked mine to make sure. I haven't had to restore so I'm not sure how smoothly that process goes.

I switched over the NexFro101 with the WiFi Fix. Working fine now. :)

Also, I had no problems with the contacts. They automatically downloaded from my gmail account.

Yea. I'm using jrummy rom with 1.25 ghz low voltage. I just learned that I beat the droid shadow in a benchmark test. Haha
