Root How To Root + Install Froyo On An HTC Desire

Couple of questions that have been asked before but does it void the warranty and what's the chances of mucking it up?

I'm computer savvy, I run Linux so know the filesystem and I normally play around with my computers but never done this on a phone before.

How will updates be made in the future?

Yea, will we still recieve updates over the air? And second it won't lock my desire will it as at the moment I have a unlocked gsm desire

Just wanna make sure everything will still work with T-Mobile before I root.

I'm sure it's very simple but I just want to know all the pros and cons before I do.

I don't know exactly what the chances are of mucking it up, but I've flashed a few ROMs nicely, and don't know anyone who has mucked it up.

To update it, you simply flash a new ROM.

Thanks man this sounds so simple and alot easier. Nice one

It is so simple! :D

Updates are not OTA, but it's a simple matter of flashing a new ROM.

I'm pretty sure that the only carrier that won't work is Orange.

so once you root you will never be able to do update over the air and there is no way of un rooting?

If you do this, will the phone always need manual updates in future or will you still be able to go down the official route?

Also, don't suppose you've tested the radio since the update have you? Any improvements? :)

Are there official HTC roms available e.g. HTC desire official 2.1 eclaire Rom and will there be official desire rom such as froyo when it is released?

You can unroot by Flashing the Default RUU.

If any Updates come OTA, I would Personally Just Reject them, Check out if any other Guinea pigs have done it and see if it has thrown up any Errors with other people.

The Rate of updates on MoDaCo and XDA FAR outweighs any thing your carrier or HTC could, would and will do.

If you haven't already, have a look around the XDA Desire forums and you will see that almost anything can be done before HTC or your network has even thought about it.

As for the Radio, I have the Latest and it all seem the same to me, but some ROMS NEED the new radio. Its a simple process as well, so dont Panic (UNLESS YOU ARE ON ORANGE POSSIBLY)

Released from HTC? Highly unlikely. Google Release the Source code for all Android Releases to allow Devs to build their own ROMS. Probably a better system anyway IMO...

no i meant like an exact rip from htc's release without people modding it and adding bits and bats.

im going to try it now. wish me look XD

can someone re upload the first file to root into a zip file please as i am having trouble downloading exe. thanks

ignore that i managed to run instead of downlaoding and installed.

Errr...Possibly. Seen them Before for G1. But to be honest, I can't see a benefit to HTC's Stock ROM when there are better options, but yeah, I should imagine there is 1 in the wild somewhere (Maybe the same, bar anything lost in ripping it out? Don't Know)

will this format my memory card at all while its in there? or will it just format the internal phone memory? i dont want it to format my card. if it will then i want to use my other card.

Don't worry, I forgot to run as root :D Typical Windows not working though...

It's done something, and now it's restating, I hope!
