Root How To Root: Official Guide

FYI, try removing AdFree and your HTC sense account if you are having battery issues with your Root....

Worked out great for me!

Is that just a standard unistall? still new.

Thanks

The App is a standard un-install. As for the HTC account, just go to Menu -> settings -> accounts & sync and remove it from there. I got rid of it and have lost ZERO functionality because of it. Frankly, i'm not even sure what it does!

Just wanted to say thanks to Matt and Bubby and the rest of yall who have made this process easy enough for the less technically-proficient of us to understand! My Inspire should arrive later this week and it will be my first smartphone. I'm hoping the rooting process will go smoothly and am looking forward to customizing everything - that's why I chose Android. Thanks again!

Thanks mattbe213 for the instructions. I was successfully able to root my HTC inspire device. However my language settings has changed to English (United kingdom). I don't see the English (United states) option. Has anyone else noticed this?

yes. I also had to change my weather to Fahrenheit.

however, I am stuck waiting on the screen "pushing cooked (rooted) att stock rom... ive been waiting 3 hours on this. can i exit the command prompt? what do i do?

Restarted program and restarted the update; worked!

Yes. It's that way for everyone. It's a ROM based on a new Sense UI that was leaked out. Or it is just a euro Desire HD ROM with the audio fix.

If we are talking about the stock ROM, it should be like normal, but rooted of course!

Matt

I am a newbie at this. WOuld you please tell me what the purpose of the "Gold Card" is and weather I need to have it in my device at all times or just for specific activites?
Thank you,
Ed

The reason that you need a goldcard is unknown to me. I THINK that it may be only to get the root to work on your phone. You may read up on this on some websites by searching around on Google.

Matt

Besides, its a non-issue with the simple goldcard maker so there isn't any need to worry about it.

when i take the link to the XDNA channel log/root page to downoad, I click the link, makes a noise and a tool bar drops down. Naturally i hit download file, it clicks and takes me to a blank page....then nothing. I have no virus protector/pop blocker etc on. any suggestions?

Worked perfectly! So easy and simple. Even with a few shots of bourbon (to calm my virgin rooting nerves) in me I was able to get this to work easily. Only hiccup I had was that the terminal emulator didn't force close so I had to force close it myself through manage applications. Other than that everything worked perfectly! Thanks for opening up my mind to all that is Android.

Is this the most up to date, guide....with the new att update, is this still the correct method??

thanks

I was wondering the same thing,I'm coming from the iPhone 4 which is very easy to jailbreak to the inspire which seems alot harder but will be rooting this thing, can't have a stock phone. Just wanting to make sure this works with the new upgrade I just go:Dt?

Will Z4root work on the inspire

No. Or I wouldn't have posted that rather large tutorial on how to root.

Matt

If your afraid of rooting, then don't go through with it. I did it but I haven't done much with it in a while. Stock ROM and everything.

Sorry, I haven't updated it yet. I DID read a post that said that after un-rooting and updating, they could re-root with ease.

Matt

Thanks to this guide ive successfully rooted two of my inspire phones. Unfortunately I had to unroot and return the first phone because I realized that the camera lens is NOT supposed to rattle. I unrooted it using the method here:[ROM]RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_2 6.06.04.06_M_release - xda-developers ...Unrooting it is a lot simpler and quicker for those who don't know. Rooting on my second inspire felt simpler and not as scary. Honestly the method given here and in the programs instructions that you will be running are very specific and tell you exactly what you need to be doing. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine!

I'm getting an HTC Inspire today.

When I root, does it just run the stock Android OS? As in, if I follow all of the steps in the first post, what will my phone do/look like when I reboot after rooting? Also, how do I confirm that I actually rooted? I tried rooting my Droid 1, but I never noticed a difference.

I believe everything will be stock. When rooted, you'll basically be admin of your phone. Inspire comes with a TON of programs that are completely useless and drain your battery because they always run in the background. By being rooted, you're able to delete these programs and keep only what you want. I feel like my battery life doubled just from deleting all of the useless crap At&t loads the phone with.

I tired your method but got stuck when they asked me to Enter your SD Card Serial (CID).
I'm lost so any help would be appreciated

restart your phone, mount your sd card again, finish the simplegoldcard. then put phone back to charge, then restart the root process.

Thank you Mattbe 213 rooted last night all went well, bubbys program works great just have to take your time and follow every step, glad its rooted now I can start looking at roms. Again thank you.

I'm going to do this tomorrow morning after I get a replacement data/charger cable (my current one is bent and randomly decides it's not plugged in)

One caveat, I will be doing this from my work pc which of course has a hardware firewall, my question is this: What ports need to be opened for this to work? I can get access to those but don't think my supervisor will allow me to totally disconnect from it....I'm just glad he sees this as R&D for our future products... haha
