Root How to root phone using update.zip file

I remember there used to be a thread on the website that showed you only having to use an update.zip file to root the stock 2.1. Does anybody know where the thread is or how to do it?

Are you sure? I thought the only way to do it was to flash an sbf - either the stock 2.0.1 or the SPRecovery 2.1.

The only way to root 2.1 is to flash the SPRecovery sbf, then push su and superuser to the phone via recovery.

OR, you could flash back to 2.0.1, and use either 1 of 2 update.zip files that will result in either rooted 2.0.1, or rooted 2.1.

Maybe I was thinking of that first method.
