I couldn't get z4root to work with 2.2Also, is it possible to run a temp Z4 root with the 2.2 to get rid of some of the crap we don't want?
Installing the links and rooting like I said keeps all your apps and stuff it just changes the kernel which is like the foundation of your phone. It's not necessary if you like how your phone is now don't bother rooting/installing kernel files...but if i root it the way Void_Wizard told me to up in the post ..is it going to change like stuff from virgin mobile like installing other stuff like from other phones and is it worth it??
It is completely possible. I did it.
Follow all Instructions in order to keep your phone safe I did it for myself for the first time today.
Follow this link: Re: Instructions on Rooting Spring Samsung Intercept
Don't use inxane's kernel file instead use this: http://02ee24b.netsolhost.com/downloads/JoesephMother/crapkernel_vm_1.1.zip
Then download this Kernel file vampirefo.2.2interKer.zip and put it on your main sd card directory.
Then after you have restarted after installing crap kernel restart again while holding volume down, call button, and end button and hit install from zip(press down on optical pad to select and swipe up and down to navigate)

I am really sorry for bothering you folks. I have been trying incessantly for days to root my new VM Samsung Intercept 2.2 with an EC07 baseband. So now that I said all that, so you know that I am not a lazy schmuck who just doesn't want to search or read instructions. I've tried everything. Super One Click, Z4, SW Update, you name it, I've tried it. It absolutely refuses to root.
I had a 2.1 Intercept before this one that was destroyed, and I successfully rooted it and my brother's Sprint phone with no problems, so I am a beginner, but I can obviously follow instructions. This current Intercept that I am presently trying to root is an insurance replacement. It came with 2.1 and immediately after unboxing and giving it a full charge I ugraded to Froyo before ever playing with it. I have been trying to root it since Monday. There is nothing left to try.
At this point I am looking to pay someone to root it. This is my last effort before I send it off. I absolutely must have tethering for college purposes. And I am broke, and can not afford to go with Sprint or another carrier and pay the fees. Can anyone help me? Does anyone know anyone who will root it for a fee? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

HTH, yes I did try that several times. It failed. Thank you for your post.
@ Levi, did you pull the battery and usb cable as soon as swupgrade hit 100%? And also did you get louziffer's patch for the swupgrade? you cannot let the phone reboot. mine rooted on the very first try with SWupgrade, if you tried that and it didnt work then maybe you were following bad directions? I noticed a lot of steps i found dont mention creating the sdx folders until after you've started swupgrade but i made those folders first of all. I hooked my phone up with usb and created the sdx folders and installed the zip files before I ran swupgrade. I put crapkernel in the sdx/zip folder i created and put vampirefo2.2 in the root directory. Removed the old .tar file and put in the cm01.tar, then ran swupgrade and as soon as it hits 100% you must pull the battery and unhook the USB cable both do not let the phone reboot. Then I put the battery back in, no usb cable anymore, went into recovery mode (vol dn, talk, end) and installed from the crapkernel zip in the sdx/zip folder, then rebooted again in recovery and installed from the vampirefo2.2 zip in the root. You need to get everything ready and move all the needed files to the phone before you begin swupgrade.
Wow, that seems like a lot of work - why not just do the one-click root as described in my previous link?c
