Root How to Root?

OK I'm pretty new to Androids in general for starters. I know what rooting a phone allows you to do. I understand people put different ROMs out there. The questions I have are: How do you root? I see the one click root. I am not sure if that's how you root a phone or if that's a custom ROM. I was interested in trying shabby's ROM. Also, is there a way to back your phone up before you start messing with it? I'd like to have a "stock" image to revert back to if needed for warranty reasons, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you decided to root , you will need to download the links in the order I posted them . The Odin recovery is just in case . :p
 
Awesome. I'll take a look! I am definitely going to root my phone. I want to get rid of the bloatware and see what this phone can really do. Haha. Thanks!
 
Alright. I tried to download the ShabbyMod 0.9 Slim and it's saying the page can't be displayed. Do you know another location where I can get the file?

Yea wet, I completely overlooked that or something. I got too caught up in downloading everything and the excitement over a better phone must have gotten the best of me. :D

No problem . I hope that you are having some fun with it :D . If you have a question or don't know how to do something to your newly rooted phone , please read and/or post a thread in the Forum and wait on an answer . Sometimes it takes a day or longer to get the answer you're looking for , just be patient .... I really hate to see people brick them after spending almost $200 .

Yeah! Biker. My advice is get the insurance and know how to unroot! They swapped out mine, so I can start over from scratch and maybe get better battery life this time. Mine was improved but not like Optimus has gotten. I am going to go through the steps on his list.
