Root How to root!

Just wanted to update that uninstalling nitro lag nullifier did nothing. SO FAR changing my V6 settings to a lower setting has seemed to work though. I changed it from the lowest 512mb option to the highest 256mb option.

I'll update if anything changes.

No freezing for me. Glad you seem to have fixed that.

Haven't quite fixed it yet. I've lowered my V6 values, Uninstalled nitro lag nullifier, changed it so it won't underclock unless it's over heating or the screen is off... It's better than it was, but I'm still running into problems and I don't understand why.

I have a 64 bit Windows 7 computer and I tried to run ZergRush after installing the main post's drivers. It did not root and came up with an error saying that there was more than one emulator. I also have the beta version of BlueStacks on my computer, which is an Android emulator for the PC. Could that be causing part of the problem?

If you're still having problems, you can try this method using a rooted custom kernel. It saved my phone after I fubar'd it with my noobish prodding around in the bin directory. Basically, you copy a zip file into you SD card's internal memory and run it using the phone's recovery mode. Here's the link to the details and download.

[Kernel] Samsung Exhibit II 4g rooted kernel v1.2 - xda-developers

Edit: To navigate through the recovery menu, use the volume keys. Select the .zip file with the home key.

Edit 2: voxnihili, if you're still watching, I did it using my MacBook.

Ive done this before, but I had to use odin to restore to stock, now when I open the batch file it sends out alot of text but I notice it said (APPLICATION ALREADY EXISTS) in one place. Please help

I'm sooo confused and frustrated! Everyone says that rooting their phone was easy and painless, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded Zergrush, set the debugging, plugged in the phone, clicked on the file, but then.. nothing. I got a box (DOS prompt) from double-clicking on the batch file, message says abd waiting-on-device. So I waited. Thirty minutes later I unpugged the phone, ran Root Checker, "UNROOTED."

I am the greenest of noobs, I know. My question is, what step am I missing? Any help will be very appreciated!

Ok just updated to 2.3.6 and lost root in the process. I tried rooting it with zerg but it installed terminal emulator but no superuser. I checked to see if I was rooted and I am not. What do I do next?

1. Install the drivers (they're for the exhibit 1 but they work for the exhibit 2)
2. Go to your phone's settings then applications then development and enable USB debugging
3. Plug the phone in to the computer
4. Run the root
5. ?????
6. PROFIT!

If SU binary does not update correctly, install an app from the Android Market called "BusyBox Installer" and when you open the app you have to change the install option to "bin" (the default is "xbin") and then click "install" (you do this from within the app after you install it).
^ THANK YOU TO FulciLives FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT THE SU BINARY^ :D

DRIVERS: TMO_T759_ADB_Tether_Drivers.zip

ROOT: Zerg rush root.rar

EDIT: I got this information from various threads in the exhibit 1 forums and I take NO credit for any of it. All I did was compile all of the information and put it in our own forum.
Tried all these things to root my Samsung Exhibit II today after upgrading the firmware from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 last night but have been unsuccessful :(

The ZergRoot batch file is able to run its script OK (As long as USB Tethering isn't enabled) & still the phone isn't rooted

USB Debugging is enabled on the phone

Any ideas as to what else I might try or am I stuck until ZR is updated?

Cheers :D

HOW TO ROOT 2.3.6

If you already have upgraded your phone to 2.3.6, then you can root it by flashing the rooted kernel.

Download the kernel.
Copy it over to the SD card.
Reboot into Samsung recovery.
Select the kernel zip file to install.

Once the rooted kernel is installed, your phone will be rooted and also the new CWM recovery will be installed.

The rooted kernel can be downloaded from here.
Dev-Host - t679.kernel.beta2.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

If you have not upgraded to 2.3.6 ROM yet, you can upgrade and root at the same time by downloading and flashing the rooted ROM.

The information on the rooted kernel and rooted ROM can be found here.
Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G - xda-developers

YMMV. Read the instructions. Make a back up copy.

P.S. - It's safer to first install CWM recovery and then make a back up first before you do anything else. The latest CWD recovery for Exhibit II 4G can be download from here.

Samsung's recovery only sees the internal SD, so make sure the zip file you want to flash is located there.

Stock recovery sometimes takes more than one try to start.

Easy way to start recovery
* Make sure the zip file is on your internal (non-removable) sd.
* Pull the battery from your phone.
* Connect phone to your pc via usb.
* Press & hold Volume-up
* Insert battery

Your phone will boot into recovery.

Press the capacitive menu button (left bottom button)
when you see the open white box and droid.

Choose 'apply update from sdcard' and select the zip file.

Just got this phone and it had 2.3.5 on it so I was able to root it easily. Flashed CWM and going to flash Rebel ROM. Waiting for my SD card in the mail.

I am very impressed with this phone so far. 4g (HSPA+) is running beautifully.
