Root How to root!

I did everything in the instruction for zergrush. The driver for my phone was installed. enabled usb debugging in settings>applications.
I ran the zergrush bat file. it sayed it worked then it got stuck on adb shell something. (sorry dont remember) I was messing with my phone sergrush started to do something all of a sudden. saying that it could not find the device. then it sayed press any key to continue. the command closed and the phone restarted. There is no superuser i checked and it says it is not rooted. now the zergrush tries and says more than one device and emulator. what do I do please help. have never rooted a phone before. a step by step would be greatly appreciated.

There's a step by step in the first two posts. It may have been a driver problem (then try to uninstall/reinstall the drivers) or the "I was messing with the phone" thing.

I unchecked usb debugging then rechecked it and zergrush redid it. I left the phone alone. it did everything (restarted the phone and said everything was good) It said waiting for device then said press any key to continue. i did and the command shut down and that was it. My pone is still not rooted. I will check the drivers and see what happens. any other advice would be great. also while it was trying to root a message popped up saying that something bluetooth couldnt continue and it wanted me to force close. I left it alone. was i supposed to?

I just got my Samsung Exhibit II today. How can I root the phone from my Mac OS X? I noticed the files were .exe, which wouldn't work for me. Thanks.

ETA: I have Googled my question, but the results didn't come up with any concrete answers.

Note sure how to help you but I will try... Usual disclaimer here, be careful, I deny all responsibilities if you damage your phone.

There may be alternative methods that you may found and hopefully there will be some of them made specifically for mac (check google with more specific methods like superoneclick for mac and zergrush for mac). The only other method I see would be to install adb on mac (and make sure your phone can be accessed through adb) then you would have to launch the commands you can see in the .bat file one by one.

It seems to me the main thing the script does is to push zergrush into the phone and launch it, then it pushes superuser and terminal.

It really doesn't take much time to root, if you can't find a way to do it through your mac, I'd suggest even using a friend or family's computer, it took me something like 15 minutes start to finish, give or take.

All right. I guess I'll do that. It's just if I want to transfer files in the future, I don't know if I'll have to use a PC to do that. Thanks.

ETA: SuperOneClick does support the Exhibit II. I just need to find the latest download. Where is the official site for it (again, Google???)? I used UnrEVOked (Mac version) to root my Incredible - which had an official site.

ETA2: Looks like shortfuse.org is it...

I rooted my phone to get rid of the bloatware. After I removed it, the phone was freezing up and acting slow, but I restarted it so it's working fine now.

After all that work, I only have .86 GB internal memory left?!

Anyways, I just ordered a 32GB micro SD card so I can move a bunch of apps in there.

And actually, I used Windows, so I have no confirmation on SuperOneClick working for the Exhibit II using the Mac.

Is there any way to get rid of that annoying T-Mobile welcome screen with the music when you turn on/off the phone?

hi just received my exhibit 2, been trying to follow the instructions here and it wont work... when running the zerg it stopped at "daemon running successfully"
can you please help.. thanks in advance:D

have downloaded the adb and installed it, then used the zerg.. but theres no indication whether the usb is using the adb, if i plug the usb, should i see the sd card and files of the fone? everytime i try to plug it, nothing happened in my pc.. pls help me.. thank u..

have also tried downloading several drivers but still doesnt work... can you give me a link of latest drivers that will work on this.. Im using windows 7

thanks again

So has development and what not come to a stand still for the most part? Haven't really seen anything new happening for quite some time now.

Yes, I still need to update the app list based on your feedback. I froze the same apps you did without any problem for quite some time now. Overall, it should not change much as I think everything is on the list.

There's some development on the phone. So far 3 custom ROMS and a custom kernel with features similar to stock kernel but it's an important step I think. I believe most of the news will come from this side: nice themes, RAM optimization, new kernel features, etc

Also there are active developments on the galaxy S+ and galaxy W side which may be possible to port (similar hardware) but I would not be surprised it would take months to see things coming from that side.

I read somewhere that the stock kernel can be underclocked, can't find it now. Is this true? And what is the best app to do this with?

I confirm. With root and an app like juice defencer ultimate you can underclock. I do that all the time so the battery lasts much longer.

I don't know what is the best app. Juice defender ultimate works well for me but is not free. I have not tried setcpu or voltage control but they should be able to do the same thing.

Cool, I think I'll give Setcpu a try.

Edit: setcpu works great, I did try voltage control first since it was free, but I didn't like it at all. Should get some better battery life out of this for sure. Can't wait to be able to overclock.

Ok, for some reason, since installing Setcpu and setting up some profiles, I've been getting lag, especially when watching a video. I'd understand if I had it underclocked, but the way I have it set up at the moment, my minimum is actually higher. I have it so that from battery being at 100% to 70% the max is at it's highest and the min is at 368 instead of 245. So at least in my way of thinking, shouldn't I be getting a little BETTER performance out of these settings?

Any ideas?

I have it underclocked at lower battery levels and high temperature lvls, as well as underclocked when the screen is off, but none of these come in to factor while I'm watching a video.

Any ideas?

Really not sure but I try to answer. The way I understand underclock is that under some circumstances usually when you do not use much your phone, the cpu works at a lower frequency (and at the associated electric power which should be lower than at full speed so you save a lot of battery).

Setting the low frequency level at a higher level will help only for the phone activities running at those low frequency. For my phone settings for example, doing that would improve the performances when the phone does nothing so it will only be good to burn the battery faster. If your phone does a lot of things at those low frequency, it should improve the performance of those activities.

For your video problem, I would guess (it's only a guess) that for some reason it is interpreted as a low power activity (because you do not touch the phone for some time ? sounds reasonable to me) and the cpu goes at a lower frequency (which reduces the performances). If it's this, you can try to change the cpu governor or maybe setcpu settings ?

This is pretty much what I assumed as well, but what doesn't make sense to me, is that if it's on the "on demand" setting which is the default setting, then shouldn't it work just as it did BEFORE I installed setcpu sine I didn't make the min lower? Except obviously for the fact that I have it set with a higher min so the lower activities should run a little better.

It just doesn't make sense to me as to why watching videos before worked great, but with the default setting and a higher min now they run choppy. I don't know what I'm missing.

Edit: These are my profiles, in case it shows anything I'm doing.

Temp>50c 768/122
screen off 368/122
charging 1024/368
battery <10% 768 122
battery <25% 806/122
battery <50% 1024/122
battery <70% 1024/245
battery <101% 1024/368

All are "on demand"

Also, what would be a goo setting to set the "in call" max and min to? Would setting it too low mess up the call quality or anything?

Again,I'm really not sure I can help so I will not post more after this one (no need to give you inaccurate information !). My personal experience with Juice defencer is that I had a lot of lag with "on demand". Now I am on "performance" (but also I changed v6 supercharger settings at the same time so not sure what does what...) and I feel it is much better.

Well, performance does work great, but that's because Performance on Setcpu makes it so that's it's always on the highest, never drops. That would kill my battery and probably make it run pretty hot. But ok, it's all good, I'll play around with stuff a little more and hopefully figure it out.

You still have your V6 set at multitask?

I do not remember the name. It was setting number 7 (and I have nitro lag nullifier which is another number but I do not remember which one)

Edit: I have RC4 I think ?

I just installed the newest version... I cann;t find what exactly nitro lag nullifier is though, do you know where the info is on that, or know what it is at all?

Unfortunately, no :( I think it is the biggest problem with v6 supercharger. The level of information is very very low ! I remember I checked the internet a little and the "feeling" I got made me think nitro lag nullifier was worth the shot.

Honestly, I have no idea if it does anything.

Nilpotent, have you by any chance been having a problem with the phone freezing up more often than usual?

I installed the new V6, set it to a new 512MB setting, installed Nitro Lag Nullifier, and installed SetCPU all at like the same time.... Since then, I've been having a problem with it freezing up.

If you don't have any suggestions, I think I'm going to start with uninstalling Nitro Lag Nullifier first, then work my way through to hopefully find the problem.

I will definitely update with any findings I have.
