Help How to run GitHub ApkRename step by step

[backitup]

I want to do answer #3 on this page which promises a 5 minute execute:
"http:\www.android.stackexchange.com/questions/19935/how-to-keep-two-versions-of-an-app-installed"

I have all the software. I have never used Git Hub. All I want to do is run ApkRename and ApkSign. I can't get the GitHub interfaces to work. Where do I enter the data the answer requires? I can get the dos screen to flash but the file is not opened on the phone even in the manager app. Also is a new file created? If so where? Anyone know about this?

Are you trying to do this from a MS/Windows machine via a DOS (Windows Command Prompt)?

If so, that's not going to work (despite what the answer implies).

The scripts (*.sh files) provided in the github link are bash scripts than will only run in a Linux-like environment (i.e., Linux proper, Mac, or Cygwin on Windows).

I have tried windows cmd. I also have something called github, git shell, git bash and git cmd that was installed with the git hub software. You mean this routine can't be done on windows?

Likely not without something like a Linux environment emulator (Cygwin, for example).

Edit: I tried it on my Cygwin install and it fails with some odd errors...so I'm guessing it's really not meant to be used on Windows .

Not what I wanted to hear but thanks for trying .
