Root how to save contacts when moving to Gingerbread CM7

so all my contacts are on my SIM card, not phone, but twice, when I tried to install CM7, they didn't convert. How do I convert them?

Cyanogen does not include Google Apps with their roms, so you need to download and install Google apps, in order for your contacts to be downloaded.

Go here http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip that's where you'll find the google apps. They install through CWM Recovery by flashing, just like a rom.
