Help How to show Phone contact, not Facebook contact

I apologize if this is, in fact, already in the forum but I did a search but couldn't find this exact problem.

The problem I'm having is that I have all my Phone contacts set up correctly, with photos and everything. But when I first signed into the Facebook app, it asked me if I wanted to sync contacts, and I said no. But the app synced some of them anyway. Now, when someone calls me, the photo that appears for the person is from the Facebook contact list, not the photo I set up myself.

In People, I unchecked Facebook so it won't show the Facebook contacts, but that doesn't help with this problem. Anyone know how I can force my Rezound to show the photo that *I* specified instead of the Facebook photos?

Ok...

Here we go....

Select PEOPLE > Then the contact you wish to change the photo of > edit contact > Then press the photo of the contact in the upper left hand corner.

That should then let you select which photo you wish for the contact.

Hmm, no, that doesn't seem to work. Here's what I see in PEOPLE:

1. I press the People-> dropdown at the top and check both Facebook and Phone. Now both Facebook and Phone contacts are shown.
2. The person I'm trying to change has 2 entries: one from Facebook with the incorrect photo, and one from the phone with the correct photo.
3. If I select the Facebook copy of the contact, there is no option to Edit, so I can't change the photo.
4. If I select the Phone copy of the contact, I can edit the photo, but this doesn't help solve the problem.

This is why I think the best way is to force the phone to show only the Phone version, or find a way to delete the Facebook contacts from my Rezound. But I can't find a way to do this.

You have to first unlink the contact. Tap the chain icon with "Linked" under it on the right side of the picture, and then you will have two separate entries again for that contact, and from there you'll see a down arrow next to the picture. That means it's now editable. Tap the picture again and then you'll be able to chose from your gallery, camera, phone or FB.

RPW, actually I already unlinked the contacts. I *do* see two separate entries for the contact, but if I choose the Facebook one, I can't edit it.

You are misunderstanding me....

Select PEOPLE from your app drawer....

Once it's open, Select the name of the contact you wish to change. It will open his/her contact page.

Then select edit contact.

Then select their photo in the upper left hand corner... It will then give you the option to assign another photo to the contact...

You don't have to unlink anything...

In fact it won't work unless they are linked

Sigh. Well, does anyone know if there's a way to delete the Facebook contacts from my phone? It seems like it shouldn't hurt, since the actual number of friends on Facebook is larger than the number of FB contacts on my phone. I simply couldn't stop it from syncing in time.

There's got to be SOME way to do this, but I just can't think how.

What happens if you clear data for 'facebook for sense' and the actual facebook app?

NightAngel, I tried that and it doesn't seem to work. I'm wondering if I can export the contacts I want to keep, then find a way to clear ALL contacts, and then re-import the exported ones? I wish I knew where the Facebook contacts were kept, since it's obviously not in the Facebook app's data or cache.

If you go to the people app and hit menu>import/export>export what are the choices? If you can simply back up the google ones to your SD card then delete all contacts, go back to 'people' and import from sd card you should be fine.

I remember this being an issue on previous HTC phones. Worse case browse around in Evo and Incredible sections for threads on the same thing

NightAngel, thanks. I may have to give this a try. I know I can export and import just fine, since I exported from my Incredible and imported into my Rezound. The only question is whether I can wipe all the data in People and remove the Facebook contacts that way. Since wiping data from Facebook and Facebook for Sense doesn't do it, I'm guessing this may be the only way.

I'll report back after I try so people will know whether to do the same.

A related issue is the blockiness of contact photos when they show up in the dialer and when you receive SMS. This is because stock Android stores contact photos at 96 * 96 pixels. If you use an app like HD Contact Photos, you can put higher-res images of your contacts in a folder on your phone and then associate them with your contacts. The Rezound supports contact photos of up to 256 * 256, looks much nicer.

I ended up using this app because as you said, a lot of Facebook profile photos are blurry or don't show the contact's face well.

Okay, I tried it. I went to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All, then cleared the data for Contacts, which seemed to do the trick. Then I re-imported the contacts I'd exported before this.

One thing to remember is that, if you'd created any groups before, you'll have to do it again. Exporting contacts doesn't export all the group memberships. But to me, this is a small price to pay to make sure I get my contacts exactly the way I wanted. Now when I go into People and press the People dropdown at the top, the listing for Facebook says 0 contacts.

Finally!

Awesome! Glad to hear it

A quick update: last night, my Rezound suddenly showed a new notification asking if I wanted to link Facebook contacts with existing phone contacts. After choosing No, I opened the People app and saw that it again contained a bunch of Facebook contacts.

However, this time, when I opened the Facebook app and went into settings, the option to sync contacts was different. When I chose it, it gave me the option to remove contacts from the phone. Not sure why it wasn't there before, but for anyone else who runs into this, it's possible the answer is just a quick option in the FB app itself.
