How to silence the start-up sound?

Is there a way on the Samsung Galaxy S4 to silence the sound that plays when I power on the phone? I've tried turning the volume way down, but it only affects the ringtones, etc.

You'd have to root the phone, then replace the startup sound file with one that has no sound. (Something like a file of 1 second of silence.)

I'm not rooted and I use the app silent boot in conjunction with smart volume free. You have to put the system volume on zero with smart volume then enable the silent boot. No sound on boot up, a rainbow light show but no sound.

Before restarting the phone have the ringer set to silent.

Startup Manager will do what you want, and no root required.

Now if we could just do something about the rainbow light show without having to root the phone. It hurts my eyes.
