Help How to sync between Android and Gmail contacts ?

I have just got my very first Android phone (Incredible S), but I have some problems doing the sync with the contacts between gmail and the phone.

I have an Gmail account, and the contacts in this account, will not transfer to my phone, and if I add a contact to my phone, it will not transfer to Gmail.

In "settings - Account & Sync - Google" I can sync Contacts, Gmail and Calender....but no contacts is transferd - how can this be ?

Are you absolutely sure you signed into your phone with that same gmail account? Also, when adding contacts to the phone, make sure you add them as Google Contacts instead on Phone Contacts. google contacts will sync, phone contacts wont.

In my "Account & sync" menu, I can see that I have a "Google - ...@gmail.com" and a "Mail -...@gmail.com" which both have the right and same Gmail address. It is only in the Google-part I can do a contact-sync, not in the Mail-part.

But right now when I try to "Sync now", Gmail and calender sync fine, but the contacts get the message "Sync is currently experiencing problems....". This might be the problem...I guess

I also had the same problem with my "S" and was unable to sync contacts. In the end I gave up - primarily because I use Hotmail and not GMail - and now I just sync my contacts to my laptop using Android WiFi.

Oh no - this is really bad. My main reason for choosing an Android phone is the uncomlicated integration of Google Apps. Or so I thought...

This is a deal-breaker for me. Are yours Android 2.3?

I've also had issues in syncing contacts from Gmail to phone via WiFi and after waiting several minutes without any result, I've downloaded all my contacts to a single .vcf file, saved it to the SD card and then imported all these contacts to the phone's agenda.
Now they are stored as Google contacts and synchronize pretty nice with Gmail, Facebook, Twitter etc.

Hope this helps.

Not quite sure what you are saying here. So the problem was the initial sync? And now, after importing all your contacts into the phone, syncing works?

Are there any difference between Gmail contacts and google contacts ?

Yes, they didn't sync entirely until I've uploaded the .vcf file.
Now, although the sync process is very, very slow, the groups created in my phone were synced to my Gmail account.

I think that all the Gmail contacts are seen in the phone's agenda as Google contacts, so basically there is no difference between them.
