How to sync itunes with desire?

Hi,

I upgraded to froyo (Tmobile, unrooted) yesterday and I'm trying to sync itunes with my desire.

I've downloaded HTC sync from the support website and checked the sync itunes to device bit. But it says that there's 0 megabytes of music to sync. When I click sync now, it does sync but nothing happens with music.

I do have music in itunes, so does anyone have any ideas what I need to do?

Search for "TuneSync Lite" on the Market. IMHO the best experience for syncing iTunes.

Another way, mount the Desire, select songs in iTunes and drag/drop onto your mounted SDCARD...

I'll second this one.

My wife tried EVERY other FREE option available and all of them were buggy or didn't work right. iSyncR was the ONLY one that worked for her easily and all of the time.
 
I find MediaMonkey (Windows free version) works very well as a replacement for iTunes. It loads faster, beats iTunes for functionality hands down imo, recognises and syncs with the Desire straight off and scans Libraries pretty quick too.
 
Many thanks for the replies. I'll try dragging and dropping, and if that doesn't work give the software options a go.

It's disappointing that the HTC Sync option doesn't work though, as I though that was one of the main features of the 2.2 upgrade. I was hoping that I could just tick sync with itunes and it'd do it all for me. It's never that simple though!

I find HTC Sync a bit disappointment as well, don't know how they could screw it up so badly!
 
+another 1 for iSynchR

Works faultlessly for me.

i would use drag n drop but like iTunes for podcasts. iSynchR even synch's itunes podcasts into a playlist called 'unplayed audio podcasts' and flags them as played when you sync back with itunes.

It also updates itunes with playcounts on the music you listen to :-)

The Wi-Fi add on even syncs with iTunes over Wi-fi.

Contrary to common belief, there are A LOT of people that love iTunes. Me being one of them...

I now understand why (after countless discussions with my work mate), especially people that don't like OSX, don't like iTunes. But won't post it, since I don't want to create hot blood... To each his own...

The bottom line is that, yes, syncing iTunes comes as a great benefit to many people... So the above mentioned "joy" is not very common...

Let me rephrase; In my opinion iTunes is a hateful device not least because of the DMR or DRM or whatever that ties you to apple products. Buy the .MP3 or better .FLAC (oh no sorry the iPhone wont play the better quality .FLAC file), and you have a file that you can play on other devices.

As for podcasts, if Apple were kind enough to allow you to visit other sites rather than blocking access to all but iTunes maybe you'd think differently Uridium. No where is your access to other services more prohibited than with the iPhone and iTunes, HYPE HYPE HYPE is all it is.

I'm glad your happy with it!

But I'm not using an iphone with itunes or downloading tracks from Apple with DRM :confused: (even though apple stopped using DRM locked files years ago..)...I'm simply using iTunes as a music management application to store my EXISTING DRM free MP3's (10k of them, actually it's a copy of my existing FLAC library) and also use it to automatically download subscribed podcasts...which itunes does very very well.

what could be easier than clicking connect on the isyncR wi-fi app on my Desire and syncronising all my playlists, playcounts and podcasts.

I've tried many many Android podcast grabbers..they are all awful so reverted back to using a PC based method and iTunes is still the best imo..

why MP3 not FLAC? Well it's a portable device... I use MP3 on my Desire for the small file size and the fact that the low quality DAC in the desire negates any benefit you'd get from using lossless audio. When i want top quality audio i listen to lossless through my expensive audio setup at home.

seems to me you've never really used iTunes but have just formed an opinion of it based on speculation and rumour. I used to be the same until i actually tried it.

I'm not tied in to Apple at all...I simply use a free piece of software Apple provide as it's the best fit for my needs.
 
I owned a 3GS for 5 months, nice phone but I have to disagree with you about single click use and the DRM thing. I got tired of waiting. First of all "working on disk", then "assessing free space" then " then "assessing gapless playback" then "comverting files to .aac" before finally actually writing them to the iPhone! 140mins to fill a 16gb card! Never again.

Yes but as i said before..I'm not using itunes with an iPhone..

Using it with an Android phone and iSyncR is a different thing altogether. It's no different to syncing with WMP/Winamp/Media Monkey

and AAC? I've never been forced to convert to AAC. My Wife has a 3GS and i used to have an iPod Touch. I've never used AAC. Apple devices all support MP3 and have for many years.
