How To Tell If You've Gotten The Update

3) Just to be on the safe side, check if your sim card isnt an old one. Might have to go to the store to check that. When I got this phone(In store), they checked my sim card and found I needed a new one. This was at a T-Mobile store, not some reseller/kiosk. So it is possible this may be a cause for some issues.

What do you mean by an old one, like one that has been previously used in another phone? Or is it that they have just came up with a newer model sim cards?

@KKarlin - I agree with you. Well said! No one who is conscientious about their job wants to mislead or misdirect customers. That is why I posed the question, "What would be the point of that?"

@ChadMD First of all, this rep was as kind as he could be. He gave me the information to the best of his knowledge. As upset as I am about the outcome, that guy tried to help. Still, Tier 3 Reps are more senior and supposedly trained to handle escalations. I don't expect "Nicole" in Customer Service to do anything but ask me questions to "sort me" and move me forward. I don't believe it is that Tier 3 Rep's fault, but it absolutely is the fault of the company that sends him out ill prepared to do his job properly. Not making that Rep aware that there is an update/patch for the phone or that the most current version has "X" content is more than an oversight, this is crucial information (No Waldo, no update irrespective of .006).

While this is my first time with Tmo, I have heard it suggested in this forum and elsewhere online that Tmo reps are not "in the loop." Even in this very thread it was said as if it should have been common knowledge to me. So, ole "J.D." didn't tally the users in various online communities.

Given the fiasco of the supposed update between February 18th and 26th, I am convinced now that perhaps they cannot perform this update (patch) for every user OTA. It is just a theory, but it makes the most sense to me at this point. I would actually prefer it if they told me that truth. I wouldn't necessarily LIKE it, but at least I would not waste time trying to do something that cannot be done.

I know you are going to go crazy because I say it, but when you talk down to any customer service rep, they are very unlikely to help out even when they know the answer. I'm sure you thought you were nice, just like you think you are nice on here, but you have a very negative attitude towards TMO/Samsung and it shows. I spoke to a rep, they knew about the update, they were very knowledgeable about specific features of the Behold 2, but couldn't answer my specific question. But since I was polite, they put me on hold and went to get more information. If I had used your tone, the call would have been over (at least if I was the rep). And an FYI tier 3 rep as you call them are not responsible for OTA updates or any other firmware issues, they are responsible for setting up usage of the phone, generally email & syncing. There is an update group that handles all updates, I've spent plenty of time with them working through BlackBerry updates.

I think there are newer model sim cards, though they all look alike. In my case my sim card was 5-ish years old, so it makes sense they would replace it. I dont know what exactly is stored on the sim card or hows thats used to connect to the network, but it makes sense that newer network needs newer sim cards. And sure older cards work since they gotta keep backwards comparability. But hey, how many here got their sim cards checked when they got the phone in the store?

@Chad  We all know who you are by now. You got your phone for FREE and park on these threads to attack anyone who has anything but glowing reports for Tmo/Samsung and that shows. You are obvious.

My phone call with the Rep was lovely and without incident. I had no problem with the rep. His information was incorrect not because of our conversation but because of his (according to you) lack of knowledge regarding the update. He could only tell me what he knew. You are trying to infer something that did not happen...just as you usually do to try to make your weak point.

We see in your own words your brand of politeness whenever anyone expresses their dismay over issues with Behold2, Tmo or Samsung. Let us call to light your attack on the person with the screen name "Several" in this thread: http://androidforums.com/samsung-behold-2/45607-upcoming-software-changes-official-2.html#post392202
Where you go into an insane tirade and attack him for his opinion on his experience with Tmobile, in which you resort to name-calling and questionable behavior in an attempt to berate Several for retelling his experience with Tmobile. People please read that thread when you get a chance.

On my call there was no argument between myself and the Rep. There was no hostility from beginning to end. My frustration was finding out after the call, that his information was incorrect after spending nearly an hour with him. But as usual, in your rendition of it, you take things to a personal attack level and think that this somehow makes you a "big man"... it doesn't. It makes you look like you were BOUGHT...with a free phone. Period.

There are other people on this forum who received the SAME information from Tmo Reps that I received regarding the update. Are we all impolite??? No? Houston, there is a problem and it isn't with those of us who purchased our phones.

My issues are with my PHONE... I don't have time nor the inclination to deal with your desire for my attention. And FYI, if the Rep didn't have anything to do with the update, he should have said so. He didn't. He tried to administer a fix....He was with the PDA/Blackberry group (Read my OP)

The ignore feature is a wonderful thing!

*sigh* Can't we stay on topic? Besides if you feel grieved, there is the Zero Tolerance Policy. Good to know the rules of the community.

I don't have a problem with that. But if I am addressed, I will answer.

On another note, I went into the Tmobile store today, one of the main stores in my area...(Not a Kiosk or satellite store). And not one soul knew anything about the update. This has to be the greatest kept secret in the world. I could understand there being a huge disconnect if I lived in a rural area but I am in a major city and no one knew about this update/patch. Thank God my notes were in the system from my support call. From those notes we were able to plan a course of action.

What did you guys come up with?

I am getting a new Behold2. Based upon my having had problems from day one and mounting (documented) issues, this was thought to be best. We discussed switching out the SIM card, getting a new memory card (as, there are known issues with the SB2 and SanDisk according to their Tech Rep) - We had already wiped both the phone and the Memory card.

I believe in this phone and am willing to give it another try with the bug fix. Keeping my fingers crossed! :)

So hey guys how would i be able to get the bug fix because i have unlocked the behold 2 and i am using it on at&t network so since tmobile is pushing it out and the update does not come on wifi how would i get it please help.

I think you're having some really bad luck. I was lucky enough to work with a manager at our local TMo store. He knew about the update when I asked, including the specifics of what was to be fixed. He also roots his own BH2 and is very knowledgeable in regards to all things TMobile. In fact, there were two other employees who jumped into the conversation because they were also well informed. So the info is out there... but you can't expect every employee across the map to have insight on everything regarding the company.

The same goes for any company, including the other carriers.

Touche'. I suppose that we live in an insulated environment in this forum. All of the Android information is at our fingertips. We know what is going to happen nearly before it happens. It can spoil you...quickly.

However, with something as big as an anticipated update/bug-fix/patch for a phone that has been all but crippled by it's OS, you figure that the companies with the most to gain would make sure that their flagship (most expensive) phone is properly marketed and updated, and the employees fully trained to give the best customer experience. As one of the lead stories on our forum today stated, the SB2 marketing is too little too late. http://androidforums.com/android-news-talk/49895-samsung-behold-2-commercial-launches-bit-late.html

Still, those of us who bought the phone, love it - even in it's crippled state. We know it's capabilities and want to see it fly. So we get over zealous perhaps when we hear that we have a fix in the works. I for one am passionate about it. I just want it to kick butt, LOL.

And you'd have to say that we are faithful. Many turned their phones in after having so many problems. But we stayed. We fussed. But we stayed. Hopefully, that loyalty will be rewarded with the coming OS updates that will make this phone (as the kids say) "do what it do!" ;)

Yeah we're definitely a faithful bunch, and I believe most BH2 owners did actually purchase the phone. It is a great phone and has more potential than any Android phone aside from the N1 and Droid in my opinion.

yeah I believe that too, but it sure is a slow movin' train!:p

You realize that the N1 users & droid users have some more serious issues than we have. Just in the last 24 hours, Droids lost their mobile connection, no data or phone, and Apple filed a suit which is going to require HTC removing lots of functionality from the N1. If you go peek in their forums, you'll see many more issues.

Every phone has problems, you just have to figure out how to work around them.

Well to be truthful If I hadn't won this phone there was no way in hell I was going to buy it. At the time I was an original Behold owner (the dumb phone) and it had already soured me on Samsung.

I think you're having some really bad luck.

Luck had nothing to do with it. It is simply the state of things. You are one of a few people who have had knowledgeable Reps on this update. Just as the marketing for this phone was sketchy, so too is the dissemination of information throughout the organization about an important fix for this phone. I have never seen such confusion. Hopefully, the worst is over because between the update (whenever it is fully implemented) and the ROMs becoming available, we will become and remain current.

I'm curious about how entertaining where's waldo can be on a android phone :P

EDIT: wait i had a great idea... lets patch it to 'wheres Eclair (2.1)'

I wouldn't mind DD2, except that it was only a demo!

I bet Samsung gets some $$$ to put them on.

Well, it would be fun if they could tie it to Geo Caching where there could be clues and such left in actual places around your local area...and the world.

If they could somehow tie it to local areas where you could use say, the Layar program to discover places with the kids, that would be fun! - Ideas like this used to be far-fetched. But with Survivor and The Amazing Race Reality shows, a "Where's Waldo" IRL wouldn't be that "out of the norm"

I always enjoyed Where's Waldo and Carmen San Diego with my son when he was a lil guy, LOL.

While I do have the update, I dont know if .006 is the right way to check. But here is what shows up in About Phone for me(I got notice of the update)

Baseband: T939UVJA3
Kernel: 2.6.27 root@sep-26 #1 Sat Jan 16 21:15:14 KST 2010
Build Number: 76XXCSDCBALUM6375

I have not received "the update".. my

Baseband: T939UVIJ6
Kernel: 2.6.27 behold2@sep-01 #1
Build number: 76XXCSDCBALUM6375
FTA SW VERSION: T939.006

That should help clear some things up!

Ohhhh-K! So we are looking for the changed version of the Baseband?

I know that I have the "I" version and I don't have the update. The Baseband went up to "J"... in Yati's version. Got it. If this is the answer, we may finally have hit Utopia for locating whether we have this thing or not!

Thank you, gentlemen!

(Again, my instructions were via my Tmo Rep regarding the .006 being the latest version etc - It seems the people on this forum have a keener insight into our phone) - Thanks again! - This is so confusing. One of the companies should release information regarding the update so that we can all be on the same page.
