Are 5 digit phone numbers valid for whatever country you're in? Some countries and networks do use them for abbreviated short-codes.
I know in the UK 5 digit short-codes can be used for SMS, for not phone calls AFAIK. Whereas in China 5 digit codes are used for both SMS and phone calls(usually for calling companies, banks, organisations, govt departments, etc.)
never heard of a 5 digit text phone number. what text message app are they using?
I have. On channel 5, they used to say 'text [whatever] to 51515'--then later it became 515151.
If it's like other numbers I've seen, you just enter that number as the number you're texting to.
See my reply to @ocnbrze--when they're giving away tickets to Disneyland or something, they'll say, 'text [their word] to 515151.'

I don't know. The only one I know offhand is KTLA's, that I used as an example. [I watch their morning news daily.] I remember thinking, at some point, when they started saying 515151, that it had been 51515. I can't say with certainty that all other 5-digit codes went away, too.
You said in your OP that you think your friend wrote it down. Try texting something to it! Worst case scenario...well, they could block you I suppose. But if trying it is your only option, go for it. Either that or try to find the sender on social media, and ask them there for the correct number.
Well, to me, it looks like 40807 is the number. Am I missing something?

Next time, after it uploads, selecting 'full size' will display it inline, rather than as a thumbnail that has to be clicked on to view. It's up to you, but I prefer inline images--less work involved viewing them!

They're usually no reply numbers (You can STOP) if they're not prize entry numbers. What's with the address provided? No luck?
Another guess is they don't know your number and that's all they want for spam or a scam.

It's not a zip code. It's a reply only number that a lot of businesses use.
You cannot call them on this type of number. I get these messages from everything from Amazon to USPS so there's nothing to be alarmed about.

I'm not clear on how and when he/she talked to them, and I'm across the pond where similar can happen. Did your friend hear of this offer or was it a cold call?
I personally wouldn't move on it unless they gave a company email and physical address but don't want to sound patronising as you will know more than I do.
There's a lot of rental deposit fraud going on in the UK, but personally understand the need for finding an accessible/affordable route to accommodation.
It said nothing down (deposit) but generally they get an upfront fee or security deposit by persuasion anyway if it's a scam.
Those are my thoughts. Good luck.
